USA beats Italy for first time ever!!

Can't really watch soccer EXCEPT for when the World Cup starts. Excited about the USA in the next one. Say what you want about soccer, but there's something about the World Cup that everyone can find interest in.

Re: USA beats Italy for first time ever!!

Something about Soccer being the "world's game" and every nation having their own team to root for probably makes it worthy of watching. I'll watch bits and pieces of a game here and there, but come World Cup time, my TV is all soccer, all day, all night.

...and BIG cheers to Stars and Stripes for their win!

I'll bite and be the soccer idiot of the thread - How many times has the US played Italy?
Is this a massive streak broken or just finally beat a powerhouse team?

This doesn't make it look too bad, but when you consider the first game was played 82 years ago, it takes on a whole new meaning. Huge win for American soccer.

I am not a soccer fan at all. I don't have the typical knocks to throw at it other than it really isn't a game I enjoy watching. I have to admit though, they do take the cake on "World Champion" though. It would be cool if there were true world cups in more sports. It is exciting to see the world competing all in one sport.

Re: USA beats Italy for first time ever!!

The US escaped with some lucky defending and a zillion blocked shots toward the end. It should be said that Italy's best team wasn't out there, but it is still a damn good win for USMNT, and Klinnsmann

It wasn't our best team, either.

FSC (Fox Soccer Channel) is the only station number I have memorized. They show quite a bit of the Premier League (as well as the Champions League and Serie A).
