Cubs Sign Mike McDougal, Assign Him to Iowa
The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent right-handed pitcher Mike MacDougal and assigned him to triple-A Iowa, the team announced today.
Also, Iowa infielder Jonathan Mota was placed on the disabled list with a sore right elbow.
MacDougal, 35, has pitched for five major-league teams in 12 seasons -- Kansas City, Chicago White Sox, Washington, St. Louis and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He released by the Dodgers on May 11 after posting no record with a 7.94 ERA in seven relief appearances. In 2011, MacDougal made a career-high 69 appearances and ranked seventh among National League relievers with a 2.05 ERA.
MacDougal has a career record of 18-23 with 71 saves and a 4.00 ERA. He was selected to the All-Star game as a member of the Royals in 2005. Iowa Cubs add pitcher with major-league experience | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com -

Only 5 out and going for the sweep with a 3-0 lead in the first v. the Cards. St. Louis should be the nervous team in the years to come considering the Cubs have won 12 of their last 21 with minimal talent.
