    Soriano to the Rays?

But with no assurances, they have to look broader for ways to bolster their offense (Alfonso Soriano is already being rumored) then make decisions closer to the deadline. There's also the theory, tossed out by ESPN's Buster Olney, that they become sellers and seek to dump potential free agents-to-be Carlos Peña, James Shields and B.J. Upton, though that seems unlikely as much as they've committed to winning this year.

He's playing pretty well. His stock is about as high as it will get.

Pretty sure he could be one of the most overrated player to be in the big leagues.

Wow, if the Cubs can convince anyone to take old man Soriano and his expensive contract, Theo Epstein is a genius. He'd definitely have more value in the AL so he can DH; I can't believe how slow he's gotten in the field.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs are willing to eat a large share of his contract to get a deal done.

Cubs will have to pay up. As a fan, I wouldn't be ****** if they had to pay upwards of 80% of it.

edit: Cigaretteman just got in before I did but I agree with his thoughts.

True; the Cubs not averse to doing this. Aren't they still paying on Milton Bradley's contract?

There are a lot of teams who would take Soriano, and I guarantee you there are quite a few teams that have inquired. The deciding factor is going to be how much those teams are willing to pick up on the remaining contract, and if that amount makes it worthwhile for the Cubs to make the deal.

There is probably somewhere around $35-40 Million left on his contract, and I would imagine at a minimum, the Cubs wont move him until they get a team to pick up somewhere around 10-15% of what remains. Soriano still has value to any organzation, but the value is nowhere close to $17 million.

With his improved defense you may even be able to play him in the field a bit. With his knees a DH role and part time starter would be perfect. He loves to hit, so let him specialize in it.

Still paying Carlos Pena this year too....first I've heard of a specific rumor but Cubs may be willing to pay all of his salary to move him. Long overdue....

I thought Pena was on a one year deal last season.

Isn't Carlos Silva still on the payroll? The man traded for Milton Bradley. He's most famous for starting a dugout fight in Spring Training of all places

    ....ahh.....bless those Cubs

If the Cubs do this, I will loose or faith I have in Theo. It would be completely idiotic and pointless to pay all of his salary, and not have him playing on your team.
