Phil having some struggles staying out of the nasty stuff lately. Did anyone see the small segment on the announcer at #1? He has been making player intros at The Open since 1975. He has made over 16,000 intros without taking a bathroom break!
I don't like watching Tiger at the British. Quit hitting that freakin' 3 iron.
Why? I love it. That's what he needs to do to win IMO. He should not even bring a driver to the golf course.
Why he doesn't just hit those stinger 3 woods and low irons off the tee all the time just boggles my mind. He can hit that stinger 3 wood right down the middle of the fairway about 300 yds every time. He doesn't need to hit it 340 into the deep rough.

so at an incredibly short course where keeping it in the fairway is vital, you would rather have him hit his driver all over the place for no real benefit?

Yes. What is wise for him to do and what I like to watch are two completely separate things.

I'd still rather have him do this. His putting is going to come together sometime this weekend and when that happens he could go real low. By hitting iron off tee and getting on in two he's almost always at least guaranteeing himself a par and giving a shot at birdie on almost every hole.
I personally think -11 or -12 will win this tourney. I just don't see it getting much lower than that.
The fascination with drivier is incredible and unavoidable, yet the putter and wedge win tournaments.
