Lahair can't hit LHP so hes going to be a platoon. I expect Valbuena to be a bench player/defensive replacement. He may get a few starts at 2nd as well to see what he could do there in case the cubs choose to trade barney in the offseason
You really think they will? He's a great young talent. Love his defense.
Cubs made a mistake not trading DeJesus or LaHair at the trade deadline.
It's not like they weren't active at the deadline -- made at least three moves, right? They could still have some deals in the works. Hence the Jeff Baker trade. Kind of wish we acquired him, to be honest.
I hope they play Vitters more than it sounds like they will. It's not like Valbuena has been stellar at 3B so they have nothing to lose by putting Vitters there everyday and seeing if he can handle it or not. Sounds like Jackson will be in the lineup a lot, guessing it all will depends on matchups on who will start in the OF but I suspect DeJesus, LaHair, and Jackson will be the 3 man platoon with Soriano getting a day off once in awhile too so Jackson gets consistent starts. Out of the 2 I'm surprised that Vitters and not Jackson will likely be platooned more as Vitters has had the hotter bat lately although I know his glove at 3B is still suspect but no better way to find out than throw him into the fire right away and see if he rises to the ocassion.
And an odd first AB for Jackson, hit one off his leg and grounds out to 1B. Sveum came out to argue it but apparently none of the umpires saw it.
Yeah, idk how none of the umps saw that. Replay showed it was pretty obvious it went off his foot, bad missed call. At least he was able to advance DeJesus for Rizzo, who knocked him in, even though he had a pretty embarrassing metal error on the basepaths shortly after.
