People talk about Jackson's plate discipline, strike zone recognition, patience as a hitter, etc etc... Which is all very true.
But I just think the guy swings way too hard. He needs to realize who he can be, as an offensive player, he swings for a HR every swing. I don't think that's immature analysis either, when they show him swing in slo-mo replay, you can see his back and upper body twitch from the torque
Because the Cubs just traded away 2 of their starters and have another on the DL.
Great assessment 4 days into his MLB career.
I agree that patience needs to be had with Jackson. And I think they should keep him in the lineup while he's here to get him ABs. But it's naive to think a 30 game sample size is going to tell us something different from what we know now. The dude hasn't quite figured out how to hit yet. And he strikes out a really high rate. We're the 160 Ks in DM not enough for you?
I hope I'm wrong though. Whats the best case scenario? Answer: he lights it up and starts to slowly reduce his strike outs, showing us that he can hit, run, steal, defend. And we could plug him in at CF for opening day 2013. I don't see it happening
