I don't know much about Webster but Lee is younger I think. Tough to lose Rubby but Gonzalez is probably worth it.

Re: Red Sox - Dodgers Trade

Finally, we're back in the game!! West Coast money spends just as well as East Coast does. Hopefully, this mentality continues and returns the beloved boys in blue to the glory days of old!!

On the surface, it looks pretty lopsided for LA, and it does provide some much needed punch from the 1B position, but it also gives the Red Sox a lot of flexibility to rebuild around what they have left. The Dodgers are giving up two prime starters in Webster and De La Rosa, too. Sands might turn into a 20-25 hr guy who plays his position pretty well.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!!

Biggest Aug trade ever. I don't think the Red Soxs are done trading before next year starts. i wouldn't be shocked if Ellsbury or Lester is also moved. Thou Id be a bit surprised on Lester. You have to wonder if 2 things are kinda going on here. 1. The ownership after that meeting has said bobby V. is going to stay the manager and so were going to get players that will play for him and or 2. The ownership has decided to clear as many players brought in by Theo as they can as quickly as they can

I don't know about Lester, but I really doubt they shop Ellsbury. If anything, I think they were so desperate to clear up contract space, specifically Crawford's contract, so they could re-sign Ellsbury. Obviously this year has been a step back for Jacoby from 2011, but it was largely due to a really freak injury (the second time Ellsbury has been involved in one of these unfortunately).

Good to see that LA is doing nothing more than trying to buy themselves a title like the Yanks do every year. Payroll can't replace chemistry. Boston gets nothing in this deal, aside from dumping tens of millions in payroll. Stupid on their part, but good for them from unloading some dead weight.
All people who make sweepingly generalized, stupid, uninformed comments are idiots.

    (maybe)

Stupid? Every analysis I've read on this trade has Boston coming out way in front. The $12 million in cash considerations is spread out over SIX years, so it's basically chump change to the BoSox. They get rid of $270 million dollars in contracts, half of which were for Crawford and Beckett. One guy who just underwent TJ surgery and another guy who hasn't put together a complete year in a couple years. They also get two of the Dodgers best prospects in De La Rosa and Webster (#2 in the Dodgers system), both of whom were supposedly "untouchable" at the trade deadline.

Losing Gonzalez hurts the offense, but it was a necessary sacrifice in order to get the Dodgers to assume the insane amount of risk that came along with Crawford and Beckett's huge contracts. The Red Sox desperately needed some young pitching and they got it. They proved this year that you can't just win games by scoring runs. They are 2nd in MLB in runs scored and that was good enough to be 9.5 games back in an expanded wild card and 7 games below .500.

The Red Sox now have some room to be aggressive in the off-season and have re-stocked their farm system with some promising pitchers. The Dodgers need to win this year or this trade will be seen as a major failure. Who knows what they'll get out of Beckett, and where is Crawford going to play between Ethier, Kemp, and Puig, all of who the Dodgers just signed to 5+ year, 8-figure deals?

Another thing that it does is allow Boston to go after the big names in free agency like a Josh Hamliton among others
