Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
Jermaine Jones, Kyle Beckerman and Maurice Edu have proven time and again that they are worthless Center Mid selections for the US men's team. Jones is a disgrace and should never wear the US Shirt again. He constantly gives the ball away. He isn't creative and we always have to worry about him getting stupid and reckless cards. Beckerman simply isn't quality. And Edu has proven that he is a Defender. He just played very well at Center Back for us 3 weeks ago in Mex City why not keep him next to Cameron? Instead we suffer with Goodson.
Terrible lineup tonight for the US what the heck was Jurgen thinking? There was absolutely no width and we were run over in Mid Field.
Need to play 4-5-1 against them on Tuesday lineup should be:
----------------------Gomez----------------------
Shea-------Corona----Zusi----Torres----Demps
Johnson--------Edu-----Cameron-----------Dolo
If Dempsey can't go because he isn't fit then play 4-4-2 like this:
-----------------------Boyd-----------------------
----------------------Gomez----------------------
Shea-------Torres-------------Zusi-------Corona
Johnson--------Edu-----Cameron-----------Dolo

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
Klinsmann needs to expand his circle of friends in the midfield to include players besides Jones, Edu, and especially Beckerman. There were 2 key players missing tonight but it seems Beckerman has his role locked down more tightly than Howard has his. I have seen enough of some players to know they aren't capable of performing at this level. JK needs to move on from these players but it seems he wants to drag them all the way to Brazil.

I understand that the US is a bit handcuffed when you have guys like Bradley and Donovan unavailable (and Stuart Holden perpetually hurt), but you could at least call in some midfielders who aren't complete offensive zeros. He's not the answer to this problem, but I don't see why Klinsmann is so against calling in somebody like Sascha Klejstan. He plays in Europe and for a Champions League club. When the midfield cupboard is this bare, at least call in some complementary players so you can mix and match talents. Instead we're stuck with a trio of defensive mids who just destroy any offensive continuity that might be possible.

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
Sacha should definitely get a call. It's freaking ridiculous.

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
Guys Klejstan is not the answer.
Jones, Beckerman or Edu should not play in the Midfield anymore. And Klinsman certainly shouldn't play all 3 at the same time.
Jurgen must realize that tactics and formations do matter. Klinsman said post match, ......."You don’t even have to talk about tactics. It has nothing to do with whether you play a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 , you lost the game because of two free kicks and that’s what you have to accept and you’ve got to turn it around in a couple of days."
He can't honestly be serious! Of course the formation and tactics cost us the game. We played a 4-4-2 diamond and 3 of the mids were Jones, Edu and Beckerman the formation was fundamentally flawed. The Midfield had no width, had no creativity and could not mantain possession. Also because we played 3 Defensive Mids it was actually counter-productive. Instead of helping the D it invited more pressure. Here is how it looked
----------------Jozy--------------Gomez----------------
------------------------Demps---------------------------
---------------Jones---------------Edu------------------
----------------------Beckerman------------------------
---Johnson----Cameron-----Goodson----Parkhurst---
As you can see there was no width and no linking midfield players. Jones and Edu were asked to link Beckerman and the back 4, to Demps and the forwards, but Jones and Edu are simply not capable of doing it. Maybe the formation wasn't terrible, but the tactics and squad selection certainly were terrible.

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
I never said Sacha was the answer, but he's deserved a call for a long time. Agree w/ you on the midfield. Just no service to the front.

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
With a healthy squad (and Timothy Chandler) I would like Jurgen to play this formation
---------------------------Dempsey--------------------------------
---Shea------------------------------------------------Donovan---
---------------Bradley----------------Corona/ Torres-------------
------------------------------Zusi----------------------------------
---Johnson----------Cameron-----Edu---------------Chandler---
I believe this formation would be a good balance of rigid and fluid. At times it would play 4-5-1 at times 4-1-4-1 and at times 4-3-3. Hopefully Jurgen will deploy something like this for the games in Oct.
Edit - You could also bring Donovan more central and slide Corona/ Torres outside depending on whether you wanted Landon on the ball or wanted to use his pace on the wing.

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
There have been multiple players that have deserved a call that haven't received one. Off the top of my head: Klejstan, Lichaj, and Pontius. O. Gonzalez deserves a look soon due to his potential and Ream deserves a look despite his poor club performance. Calling in this particular roster with only 2 wingers, Shea and Gatt, against a speedy team like Jamaica was just a terrible idea. Klinsmann seems set on his guys and his favored tactic of playing 2-3 D Mids each game and he should have to answer for his decisions if another egg is laid Tuesday night in Columbus.

Re: USMNT prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica
If another egg is laid on Tuesday, the US will have serious issues qualifying.
And I wasnt trying to say that Kljestan would have been the answer last night. Just pointing out like everybody else that not all midfielders have to be defensive holders. Crap, even given the poorly constructed roster there are still guys like Zusi and Corona who might have provided some sort of offensive link between the back 5 and our hopelessly stranded front 3.
