I think when the players hit ground they both had two hands on the ball, does that make it simultaneous? I don't know. In the land of 3TrueFans I think it should because I think of possession not occurring until you're on the ground in bounds.

Re: MNf - WTF
One thing that bothers me about the majority of the conversation is that it isn't just the calls at the end of games that can "cost you a game." The game will play out completely differently if holding, pass interference, etc... is called correctly the entire game. And frankly, I think there are about a dozen games or more where officiating drastically changed the outcome of the game. Home teams are even getting an extra half point in Vegas because the refs are so easily swayed. Roger Goodell should be embarrassed about this black eye on the sport and the league. He represents the owners, and so it's ultimately his responsiblity. Keep in mind, the league locked out the referees. They could be working right now, while they continue negotiations. The referees aren't on strike. -

Don't blame the replacement officials. Blame the commissioner, Roger Goodell.

Hey, maybe if the Packers had kept their QB on his feet a little more tonight, they wouldn't have been stuck in a situation depending on the refs. There were enough horrible calls on both sides (including some phantom holding and a questionable first down for Rodgers leading to a TD) that I imagine we'll either see major fines on rebellious teams/coaches this week, or they'll finally do something about the refs.

Re: MNf - WTF
I don't know if the regular refs would have helped here. Why?
-this is a hell of a call either way
-anybody can make an initial mistake from a sub-optimal angle to see Tate's arms on the ball when everybody comes to the ground, no idea that the Packers might have had it cleaner and first
-I'm not even sure what the rules are for governing "possession" versus "simultaneous possession" in these instances
-the replay officials are the NORMAL ones--they're a different union
-this was going to be booth no matter what happened, and the normal replay refs couldn't overturn it
Hence, I think this was going to be a cluster of an ending no matter what happened. I'm pretty sure the standard of four hands on the ball isn't, "That guy just *looked* like he had it more than the other guy somehow."
I don't feel this is an actual black eye to the integrity of the game for the above reasons, but I'm sure this will still giving the pundits something to talk about. The silver lining to this that it will probably bring the regular officials back now, which, despite my feelings it wouldn't have mattered with this one, is a good thing.

Well, Jennings did come down on top of Tate, back to chest with Tate doing nothing more than reaching around trying to tear the ball away. I'll say 4 utils for Jennings, 1 util for Tate...

Re: MNf - WTF
Sad thing is... the guys reviewing in the booth are not replacement refs. They are the normal guys!
That said... the replacement refs blew it and have been blowing it all year!
And the NFL is losing credibility. Soon they will start losing fans.
And if I was Ed Hochuli, I would not be smiling at all (as someone stated earlier in the thread) because the game is being ruined...
