The key part is that the wording of the rule is written based on control and not on possession.

As a Vikings fan, it feels great to be one of the teams in first in the North, but as a football fan, I can't believe this. It'll be great if the real refs come back because these replacement refs can definitely make some games hard to watch. It won't stop me from watching, but something's gotta change.

I have not seen one decent officiated game in NFL this year. The college refs are superior at this point.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Re: MNf - WTF
This is pathetic. Bad calls on both sides with the worst on the final play. 2 refs right on top of it could not even agree. I can't fault them completely on the missed PI on the last play as the normal zebras miss those. But calling a catch on that play is just foolish.
The sad part is, what compels the NFL to fix it? This is a huge story ans everyone is watching. People talking about it all week. I can't stand Steve Young the desk guy - but he is 100% spot on. The NfL is treating the refs as a commodity and not an integral part of the game with running unprepared replacements onto the field.
Instead of considering game integrity and player safety...the NFL has chosen money and ratings as their only important factors. Completely contradicts all the player safety movements over the last decade.

Jennings controlled/possessed the ball, and Tate controlled/possessed Jennings while simultaneously touching the ball. Tate neither controlled nor possessed the ball. I'm not sure where the confusion is.

It's a simple game in which strategic beauty comes not from being surprised by some new clever trick, but from the sublime, routine brilliance of a master in his element. -

Man what a touchdown catch by Tate, totally had joint possession while on the ground. Wanna argue that one?
