Same here. When I first started watching football you could watch a 15 play 80 yard drive without a break. Now they run a play or 2 and go to commercial. It just breaks up the whole flow of the game.
When FOX started covering NFL football they really added some good enhancements to the viewing experience. Then they added in dancing robots and other BS stuff that are just a nuisance.
At lease I know when the actual kickoff is so I can skip all the pregame garbage. How they can talk for 2 hours before a game is beyond me. Especially when about 1/2 of it ends up being a Dallas Cowboy pep rally.
You people watch too much espn. That is your problem. Don't ever watch espn.
I'm not a big fan of it or the way it's run. I've never had a real NFL "team" I cheer for and the Bears fans in this market are all so delusional it kind of keeps me away.
I still watch a decent amount, the playoff race and playoffs are cool. The Superbowl is kind of a turnoff with everyone going nuts about commercials like suddenly commercials are interesting one day a year. Also "fantasy" is kind of a turnoff. I have no desire to have an addiction in my life which is all it seems to be.
Reading this thread I agree with everyone that college football is my fav, but NBA is probably my second favorite which I guess makes me a space alien or something.
I'd rather take a power drill to the head than watch most non-ISU college basketball. The 2 point, 3 point, and free throw shooting all are horrible compared to the NBA and the officiating is clearly the worst of any widely televised sport in America. You have teams who regularly make the sweet 16 by trying to hold the ball as long as possible with a ridiculous 35 second shot clock. It's a very broken sport.
That said I love ISU and I love basketball so I still get really into Cyclones basketball, but most of the NBA hate is lack of math skills and other things. The game is 8 minutes longer and the shot clock is 11 SECONDS FASTER so that's the whole "no defense" thing right there coupled with the fact that NBA players can outshoot college players with their eyes closed. The long season does at times lead to defensive lapses, but the truth is a guy like Marcus Fizer can do ok defensively in the Big 12 and then be an absolute joke defensively in the NBA trying to play real defense against real offenses. Using Fizer as an example but only 5-10 players coming into the NBA draft every year can actually play NBA level defense, it's the biggest myth in sports.
how could i hate the nfl when the vikings are 4-1?!?!?!
I voted "no," but I'm not a huge fan of the NFL. If the 49ers are doing well, I pay more attention. I'll watch the midwest teams on tv sometimes. Overall, I could take it or leave it, depending on the situation/year. But I don't hate it.
Obviously, baseball is my favorite these days, but that's changed over the years also. College football used to be my favorite, then it was college basketball, but now it's MLB, although I still enjoy the other two tremendously. Can't watch NBA or soccer at any level. Used to watch NASCAR in the 90s, but got bored with it after a while (all they do is turn left unless they're at Sonoma or Watkins Glen!). I think I've watched way more NFL than college this year, though. Guess my Saturdays have been busier than my Sundays.
For me each year seems to draw me into college football and more away from the NFL.
I'm pretty sure you can get stupid dancing robots on Fox's coverage of College Football now too. But really, does what happens in the timeouts - essentially commercial time - of a game affect your interest in the game? I like NFL but college ball comes first. The overlap of NFL, College FB and College BB is my favorite sports time of the year.
I use to love the NFL a lot. Too many commercials now, time outs, stalling......
College football is about the only sport I'm passionate about. I still follow the Cowboys but it just leads to disappointment.
Greed and money has killed the NFL interest for me too. The athletes are so worried about not getting hurt it doesn't feel like they are even giving 100% on 30% of the plays.
I'm relatively new to watching football (Rhoads got me hooked) and I can't get enough of it, NCAA or NFL.
I prefer MLB, NBA, and college basketball over football
However, I'll watch every Cyclone football game with extreme intensity until I die
I agree, it's sometimes tougher to watch non-ISU college basketball after watching the NBA because the players are way, way, way more talented
Hoiball is lots of fun to watch for me personally because the Cyclones play almost exactly like an NBA team... with slightly worse talent obviously
I don't hate it but at the same time I would never willingly give them a red cent.
