San Antonio Spurs to sit 4 of top 5 scorers vs. Miami Heat - ESPN
I'm totally with Popovich on this one. How can the commissioner presume to tell a coach who he can and can't play on a given night? Ridiculous.

Gotta agree. He could play all the scrubs all game long if he wanted to. Hell, he could do it through the entire season and Stern should have no say in it at all.
Popovich, definitely. He can do whatever the hell he wants with his team. He's trying to win a championship, not entertain the fans.
David is a ******. Sorry, when he's gone the league will be better even with his replacement being just like Stern.
I see both sides. Ridiculous that Stern is trying to tell him who he can sit and when. On the other hand, it seems to me kind of ridiculous that Popovich sent them home. If he wanted to sit them, why couldn't they just sit on the bench?
I figured the bigger news would have been having an NBA team scoring a 1000 points. :jimlad:
EDIT: Looks like they fixed the error.Quote:
That group will prepare for the team's home game Saturday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, who own the league's best record, instead of playing the Heat, who improved to an Eastern Conference-best 11-3 by beating the Spurs, 105-1000.
Pretty funny that Miami at full strength playing Spurs scrubs and they only win by 5.
Popovich all the way! It is not the responsibility of Pop to make sure that the fans of Miami or even SA fans that live in Miami to put the very best people non-injured players out on the court. It is the responsibility of Pop to look out for what is best for the Spurs future.
Does MLB not sit players to rest them during the season? Yes, I know that there are usually 3 game series at each stop MLB teams make so there are other days for fans to see who they want to see, but it sill works the same way. Nobody complains when MLB players sit out.
As LeBron said in a postgame interview that was shown on ESPN- (paraphrasing) Pop would not put out a bunch of flunkies- they are in the NBA for a reason and those guys almost beat us- nothing to see here.....
Stern is just butthurt....
Miami has fans?
Commissioner trying to set lineups, now I've seen it all.
Ironic that teams can try to tank the season in order to get the number 1 pick while resting players for a game or 2 is frowned upon....am i missing something?
I think the point is trying to save the integrity of the game. For example, if every team in the nba sat their stars against a certain team say the heat, it takes away what the nba is for, entertainment for the fans. On top of that it hurts ticket sales ect. I understand resting players but thats saved towards end of the season. Also, stern is the best commish in sports.
