My quick take: This is the worst trade in MLB history unless Wade Davis becomes a good starter, in which case it's only the second worst.

Trading Odorizzi was a bad deal. However trading Myers was a good thing to get a good quality pitcher. People ***** way too much.

I figured they'd have to trade Myers this offseason. When you haven't developed a good starting pitcher in many years (Greinke was a freak and didn't need much development), you put yourself in this situation. I like that we get 2 proven MLB pitchers in the deal. Now if we can just get rid of Frenchy and Hochevar...

I agree Hochever needs to go.... However when Danny Duffy comes back his career won't last much longer.

As long as David Glass is CEO of the Royals this is the kind of trade to expect. Trade the future (and potential financial outlay it will take to maintain it) for the potential of inexpensive mediocrity today.

Wade Davis will be starter this year. So now our rotation is Santana, Shields, Guthrie, Davis, and ??? (I'm still holding hope they get rid of Hochevar). Chen might fill the 5th spot until Duffy and Paulino get back.

Re: Royals on the verge of acquiring James Shields and Wade Davis from the Rays

I hate this trade. I had a bad feeling that Dayton would do something like this. Even if you consider Shields an ace (which I think is very debatable) he's only under contract for 2 more years. I just don't think that's worth 6+ years of Wil Meyers at pre-free agency salary levels. And getting Wade Davis for Odorizzi & Montgomery doesn't thrill me either. Montgomery's got some serious work to do before he can be considered major league ready so I'm not upset about losing him, but I think giving up Odorizzi is going to be bite the Royals in the ***.

I really hope that this works out for the Royals, but I think this could end up being the nail in the coffin of Dayton Moore as Royals GM. He's basically going all-in which might be ok if the Royals were a playoff team who needed a push to win the World Series, but they're obviously not.

Royals gave up way to much IMO but they desperately needed more pitching and they have at least done that

I bet the Rays staff turns Montgomery into a top of the rotation starter. Where he was before the idiots in the Royals organization screwed him up.

I'm going to go do my god given right as a Coloradian and pretend this is all a dream.

Right now probably Mendoza. Maybe Chen if they want to get a lefty in there.

Unless the ptbnl is a pretty good prospect this trade seems pretty lopsided.

Yeah, Greg Schaum says it will be Chen. Hopefully once this goes through they trade Hochevar and cash for a tub of David's Sunflower seeds.

They have to make a move to for an OF now. Hoch won't get anybody but Smalls from the Sandlot, but maybe he had some range in the OF and could take a walk.
