How Screwed are the Lakers?
This season is not going well for them, and looking at the salaries, draft picks, and ages of the current crop of players; they look screwed for the forseable future.
1. Dwight Howard - He is 27, and his contract is for this year only. He has said he will explore free agency. If he leaves, the Lakers are ****ed.
2. Kobe Bryant - a million years old. Will be paid nearly 30 million dollars a year. Once he retires, which will be within the next few years, the Lakers have no one to replace him.
3. Steve Nash - a million years old as well, not much time left on those legs
4. The rest - Earl Clark, Jordan Hill, Devin Ebanks, Robert Sacre, JOdie Meeks, Antawn Jamison, Steve Blake, Chris Duhon.....Pretty much a whose who of nobody players.
5. Mike D. and Mike Brown - Mike D. has a GUARANTEED contract for 3 years and Mike Brown will be paid for the next 2 years.
6. Draft picks. They have none! Well, 2nd rounders, but most of their future first round picks have all been traded to other teams.
Overall - The Lakers, if they lose Howard, are in a deep pile of ****. I really don't care cause I hate the Lakers, but this is a problem that is coming up fast.
Does anyone have any solutions? I think they need to trade Howard now and get something in return (players, draft picks). They need to keep Pau. I also think they should go after OJ Mayo. He is on a one year deal with Dallas and he could be groomed to take over Kobe Bryant's spot on the team eventually. Darius Morris, a PG on the bench could take over for Steve Nash eventually. He is a pretty good PG out of Michigan. Oh, and they need to get rid of Mike D. as coach.

Re: How Screwed are the Lakers?
The biggest advantage the Lakers have is that players want to go there. There can wait a year or two, pick up a big free agent, and be fine. Everyone wants to play for the Lakers. One or two down years won't hurt them.

Re: How Screwed are the Lakers?
When the NBA season starts DirecTV lets you see games for nothing for about a week.
Watched the first couple Laker games and there is no way that group would ever be more than a 40ish ,at best, win team.

Upon acquiring Howard, the media had the Lakers as a competitor, if they didn't outright crown their arses. Instead, they've been a trainwreck.

Re: How Screwed are the Lakers?
What has Howard done for the Lakers in his short time there ? Nothing.
The only way they are going to be able to trade Howard is a sign and trade. No one is going to give up draft picks for a player that is going into free agency at the end of the season.

Re: How Screwed are the Lakers?
I'm still puzzled that a proven championship coach who was willing to come out of retirement wasn't hired. The Lakers organization did this to themselves.
“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -
Re: How Screwed are the Lakers?
Maybe Jerry Buss, his daughter, and Phil Jackson had something else in mind.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
