One of the major discussions abolitionists had was how to prepare the slaves for freedom. That was a big question that immediate emancipationists had to deal with. Many of them established schools for freedmen, but that still didn't reach the slaves in bondage.
It's one thing to want slavery to end. It's a whole other thing to actually deal with the end of slavery. It's really (and probably inevitably) a train wreck.
We didn't even mention Northern workers yet. Many of them were quite afraid that the slaves might move north and take their jobs. Lots of problems to solve in the whole abolition debate.
We also didn't get into the Constitutional debate in the North, and between North and South.

The problem is the poll.
Intentional, should have drawn a flag: He targeted Reed and should have been penalized.
Intentional, But no flag needed: He targeted Reed but shouldn't be penalized
Unintentional: He didn't target Reed and should not of been penalized.
What happened is that some of us don't agree with any of those options. We think it was unintentional (in that he wasn't trying to hurt anyone) but he should have still drawn a flag.
You and Angie started claiming that we are wrong to think that way because 90% of people in the above poll answered #1. I pointed out that saying someone is wrong based on that poll (a poll we will never know the answer to) is stupid. I went on to point out that clip would never prove intent in a court of law. Only Brady knows if it was intended to hurt Reed.
Your repose was that you don't see the problem with it. I then tried to go in more detail and you started going in circles. That brings us up to date.
Care to go on about why you don't see a problem with it. I didn't claim anyone was wrong. I explained why Cy4P seems like a joke when he hammers on and on about how Brady had zero intention of kicking and/or hurting another player with that slide.

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
Intentional. Period.
But I actually don't care if it was or not - still should have drawn a flag and/or fine. There are plenty of unintentional personal fouls called and fined. Most with the WB as the "victim" and the defender getting flagged/fined.
This one should have been no different.

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
Stop getting off topic guys. The real question is, did more people want slavery, or not?

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
I just have to say I'm really proud of this board for responding to Cy4's absolutely preposterous analogy by having such a civil discussion about a complex and profound issue in our nation's history. I think it's really what sets CF apart from your average messageboard.

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
I read the first and last page of this thread, the last of which I have no idea now it relates in any form to the original question.
Here is my take, in a completely, unbiased way since I've probably watched 6 quarters of the NFL this year and highlights on ESPN sometimes and don't really have a favorite team, just teams I do and don't like (but am glad KO made the SB.) I don't think it was intentional to hurt but I do think he was in control of his leg. He did not raise it 45 degrees, the contact made it so. Brady had a better chance of being hurt by looking at how his leg jolted and he is lucky they have special QB protection or he may not come back from the injury that could have been. It still should have been flagged, maybe fined since they penalize the defense for unintentional but dangerous plays.

Another reason Brady is a ******. The cheap shot doesn't surprise me, but I'm shocked he didn't get up whining for a flag on Reed.

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
Kind of an interesting thread. After looking at the options, I said intentional with a flag. After looking at it again, I don't know how you cannot say that it wasn't intentional because Brady re-extends his leg after initial contact. Also there is no reason to bring a leg up because defenders are suppose to avoid contact. I think Reed would have avoided contact in this case, but if there was a penalty the clock would have stopped and the Pats may have been able to get another play off.
I honestly think there would have been little damage done to Reed since his leg is in the air and his body can still bend. Is Brady even wearing cleats? If he is they look like they are pretty small. I think Brady is more likely to injure himself in this case and there is no reason to initiate more contact because if Brady would have hit Reed in way which he would that have landed on Brady, would that be a penalty?

Reprimanded? Wow, you must not watch football.

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
Intent is in the eye of the beholder.
When Suh made a similar leg move into the mommy-daddy region of Schaub, was it intentional?
Somewhere a poster named CyLions is defending him to the hilt.

Re: Tom Brady's slide. Intentional?
I think we can all agree that Tom Brady caused slavery and whether or not it was intentional it should have been a 15 yard penalty.
