Colors like purple, green, yellow all seem to fit so well with NO and mardi gras. Don't forget the beads ! ! ! They could throw them to female fans during time outs. Of course they would have to "earn" them. They could even have a "bead cam", I bet attendance would go up.

This means the ESPN NBA spot where they hit the bug on the windshield of the RV and make Hugo the Hornet "pick the big pieces off" with a napkin won't live much longer. -

Also, for whoever said the Royals is stupid, it's an homage to the old KC Negro League team - the Monarchs so imo that fits well and is appropriate.
Some names seem arbitrary if you don't know their story, for example; the Sacramento Kings changed their name from the KC Royals who were formerly the Cincinnati Royals because Cincinnati is referred to as the "Queen City".

Its not a bad idea because hornets are more fitting to the region than pelicans. There are plenty of team names that don't make sense, as you point out. I just think creating new bad team names is a bad business idea.
It'd be nice if they could trade team names like players. A 3-team trade with Utah-Charlotte-New Orleans might solve everything. Whoever gets stuck with Bobcats or Pelicans should get a 2nd round draft pick or something though.

1. Utah is perfectly happy with the Jazz name or they would have changed it sometime in the last 30 years.
2. New Orleans, by all indications, doesn't want the Jazz identity back. In fact, they seem to like the Pelicans identity (and that's all that really matters, isn't it - what the actual fans think?)
3. Charlotte, by all indications, wants the Hornets identity back.

Pelicans? That's an ugly bird. -
Re: New Orleans Hornets change name
Think their other options Krewe and Brass would have worked better. Someone on ESPN suggested Bourbons as well.
I do understand why Brass wasn't picked though. "Brass balls" would have been a big joke.
