If the reports are true, then too bad for Kobe and the Lakers. Being the hypercompetitive a-hole that he is, I would expect to see him back for one more run next year.
What's more interesting now is what the Lakers' long term plan is. They're old now and about to move into ancient territory if they move forward with their current core, and Dwight Howard just isn't a guy you can build a championship team around (fluke run to the Finals with the Magic a few years ago aside), assuming he even re-ups long term with the Lakers after this season.
