What are your thoughts on Fukedome?

Re: Cubs Fans
Can't be any worse than Floyd/Jones/Pagan/etc. I'm actually optimistic. I've heard comparisons to H. Matsui. Anything close would be great. I'd love to see him in center and Big Murt in left, but it depends on how Pie does this winter/spring, I suppose.

Re: Cubs Fans
A good pickup for cubs if he stays healthy

Re: Cubs Fans
As a Sox fan, I really wanted him to solve some problems for us.
It'll still come down to pitching for the Cubs.

Re: Cubs Fans
I think Fukodome will be a good addition to the lineup...I am also hopeful that Pie will turn out to be a legitimate center fielder and lead off hitter.

Just call him Do Re Me for a nickname
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Fukudome will not be as impressive as he was in Japan, but he has the ability to be on the level of Jones the first year. Jones hit more HR's, but I think Fukudome has the leg up on defense.

Re: Cubs Fans
I like the signing and ideally I'd like to see him in CF and Murton in RF but they seem set on giving Pie every chance to lose the CF job I think. I hope Pie finally starts hitting like he did in Iowa and I'm not worried about his glove but the Cubs offense really can't have a guy even hitting 8th to be batting around .220. While Murt has his defensive liabilities he's been a solid contact hitter and hits around .300 or better when he plays every day. I have a feeling he might be traded still though because he's too good to be a 4th OF and with Soriano and Fukudome there isn't much PT in LF and RF unless Fukudome plays CF. If they get Brian Roberts then he's definately gone because that would mean DeRosa would probably go to RF with Roberts at 2B
And pitching doesn't concern me. Still need to figure out who the 5th starter will be but Z, Lilly, and Hill are about as good as any ones top 3 in the rotation. Marquis always seems to have a good 1st half of the season but for a #4 or 5 guy he's still better than most team's guys there. The pen needs to find another lefty but I like the makeup with Wood, Marmol, and Howry there and if Eyre can get it together and Wuertz be more consistent it adds even more depth. Lot of ifs I guess though, always are with the Cubs.

Re: Cubs Fans
He fills a left handed hitting gap and they (we ) certainly need some more discipline at the plate, which he appears to have. Downside is he's performed well for a number of years already, may have already peaked at 31, and is coming off an injury. Japanese players seem to be a crap shoot coming to MLB. You're never quite sure what you'll get. Dice-K looked like a world beater and turned out to be a #2 starter with an ERA pushing 4.50, and a win-loss percentage 3 games over .500 for what turned out to be the World Series Winner.
Now if we could only get Lou to bat Soriano lower in the order. -
Re: Cubs Fans
I'd love to work a deal, swinging Dye to the Cubs in a deal where we get Pie back.
-
Re: Cubs Fans
I'm not sold on Pie either, but already having him I can say that. Being ungrateful for what we have.
I would not take Dye. Renewed contract, seasoned vet on the downswing of his career. Does not fit the mold of what the Cubs are going for.

In either case, I would desperately like to see the Sox take on a rebuilding tone. If we could somehow get Pie and move Dye, we could have something on this order.
CF Pie
SS Cabrera
DH Thome
1B Konerko
C Pierzynski
LF Fields
3B Crede
RF Quentin
2B Richar
Pipe dream, though. Apparently we are trying to build around Dye and move Crede.

Re: Cubs Fans
I would agree, what the Sox are doing doesn't seem to make sense. But Dye has grown into the Franchise Player for the team.
Take Pie, but give us a starting pitcher. Now that I could live with. Z is not an Ace, I dont care what people say, I dont like him in the spot. #2, absolutely, but not an ace.

It's getting off topic, but Dye isn't our franchise player, Buehrle is, without a doubt. As far as the offense, that honor goes to Konerko. Dye's getting a lot slower in the field in a hurry, and he's not looking near as good at the plate.
You can have Jose Contreras.
