Being Bret Favre last years accomplishments compared to this years in the NFL. Do you believe he is taking a form of steroids?

Brett Favre's having an amazing season in the twilight of his career. His statistics rival the best of his career. It is a late-career resurgence that matches only those displayed by the likes of ... Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens.

Here are Favre's numbers from the last 2 years compared to this year. This year he's completing 66% of his passes, which is the best of his career. Prior 2 years: 56% and 61%. Yards per pass attempt this year: 7.7, again the best of his career. Prior 2 years: 6.3 and 6.4. Touchdowns: 26 so far this year. Last 2 years: 18 and 20. Interceptions: 15 so far this year. Last 2 years: 18 and 29. This year's quarterback rating is 94.1, the third best of his career. Last 2 years, 72.7 and 70.9.

While Brett Favre is the darling of the NFL, the cuddly bear, the beloved MVP, the good 'ol boy; he also has a history of abuse with painkillers. He beat that problem, but does his past add suspicion to his current level of play?

This type of speculation is the crime and legacy of the steroid-cheaters. They've cast a long shadow on every other player who accomplishes great things. After all, if the top statistics were accomplished by really good players bolstered by drugs, how can we believe that future top players can beat the drug-enhanced stats with natural ability?

If the steroid-using players think they're not hurting anyone other than themselves, they're wrong. The people they hurt are the future (and present) players who accomplish great things on their natural ability. Thanks to the steroid-users I have no choice but to look at Brett Favre this year and wonder about his incredible production.

Where does that leave a guy like Devin Hester? He's been doing things on the football field the last two years that no player has ever come close to. What am I to make of that? Does he need to be under suspicion too? What about LaDainian Tomlinson's touchdown record from last year? Or Shawn Alexander's record from a few years back? Everything is in doubt thanks to the cheaters.

Guys like Favre, Tomlinson, Hester, and any future players who set the world on fire should be absolutely ****** at guys like Bonds, Clemens, Jose Canseco, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire. It doesn't' even matter that I'm comparing baseball players to football players. Every sport has steroid users, and there's no way to know who is who or which is which, so I'm forced to assume it could be anybody and everybody.

Is there any evidence he is taking them? He finally has a team around him that is good again, so he is shining. I hate the pack but I think they guy just wills them to win when they need it, the only other player in any sport I have seen with that much drive is Jordan.

I think this is a ridiculous assumption...

Barry Bonds had a physical change in his body... I haven't seen anything with Farve that would make me think that.

He was also addicted to Vicadin and turned himself in. Just makes me wonder with his performance lately

Brett experianced a previous two-year decline before after they lost players after the Super Bowl run. All of your statistics use the previous 2 seasons, look at the 4 before that. Kurt Warner experianced a resurgance too this year ... better look into him.

If a player has a good rookie season should we assume he uses steriods? Does every comeback player use steriods?

My productivity at work has surged in the new year. Look at these stats:

2007:
Average meetings attended per day: 2.45
Emails sent per day: 34
Conference calls hosted per day: 2.5

2008:
Average meetings attended per day: 4.5
Emails sent per day: 76
Conference calls hosted per day: 3.4

Obviously I am on HGH to help my typing fingers to recover faster.

All joking aside, I think it is sad that this is where public opinion will be heading in the next several years. ANYONE that has a good year or a come back will be wondered about.

Thats what I was thinking also...at least I am not the only one. I will always have a suspicion with age and performance now that the "steroid" age came to be.

This thread is absolutely horrible and I really hope you don't believe this. By looking at his stats you are ignoring the many other aspects that go into a successful season. His teammates have gotten better. Favre has always had the ability to put together great seasons, does 3 straight MVP's ring a bell? The sub par seasons had a lot to do with the teams that he was on, the management even got canned for the players they brought in. Give me a break. What's the next thread? Every player who improved this year is on the roids?

If you just looking to make a point, why not use Tom Brady?

He went from 24 TD's in 2006 to 50 this year. An increase of 26 compared to Favre's 6. His yards per attempt from 6.8 to 8.3. Rating of 87.8 to 117.2.

Bret has a better team this year that allows him to play within the system and thus enjoy better stats. The prior two years he had a poor supporting cast which started to emerge half way through last season. It's not like he took steroids between game 10 and 11 last year to finish last season with the best regular season finish in the NFL.

This is just a sad poll. This guy fessed up and would be the last to use steroids. He has had his problems and this makes him human and real. He's not like most stars that think they're above everyone and can do things without repercussion.

You can also see that Bret has a very appreciative attitude that is not defensive in nature. Both Bonds' and Clemens' defensive above everyone's attitude is so telling.

If I was a mod I would remove this poll.

If it's not an attempt to throw mud at a certain player, then you should refrain from using said player in the thread title and basing an entire thread around that player.

If you are looking for opinions on whether steroids play a role in the improvement of NFL players year to year, then do not use names.
