New England vs. Miami record

If New England loses in the Superbowl does there accomplishment exceed or not from what Miami has done in '72. Even though if they went 18-1 is that still better then being undefeated with a superbowl victory?

Re: New England vs. Miami record

It seems the times are so different and things are completely different in the NFL now compared to '72 that it's like comparing apples to oranges.

I don't think it is better, but they do hold the record for most wins to open a season at 18.

They have to win the SB to be in the same category. No one will care if they don't win the Super Bowl. It is the game that counts.

Miami beat two teams with a winning record.

NE beat three division champions in the regular season.

I think that NE has the edge there.

Something also to consider - I believe the Dolphins were actually underdogs in the Super Bowl. Not saying they weren't great, but clearly they were not as dominant as some think.

EDIT: Basically echoing above post...you got in just ahead of me ;).

Yeah, but you'd never know it based on how they carry on now. It's no secret that the former 72 Dolphins players pop some corks and have a party after the last undefeated team goes down during the regular season. I understand it's an important achievement and all, but you don't have to pub-whore every single season. I hate you 1972 Miami Dolphins.

I don't like the Patriots, and I think that the Dolphins did it without cheating.

There are two questions. Which team do I think is/was better? The Patriots. If the Pats lose the SB have they matched or exceded what the Dolphins accomplished? No. They didn't even win the Championship, let alone go undefeated.
