The Super Bowl Stinks

Critics Choice: Thumbs Down on the Spectacle - The Fifth Down - Sports - Football - New York Times Blog

You know, I totally agree with this guy. The super bowl really does stink. Not so much because of the game on the field, just because it's such a big hullabaloo.

Also, 1000th post

Agreed, too much of a spectacle but it's only going to get worse every year. That's what happens when half the audience only watches "for the commercials." That's how you get the 'American Idol' crowd watching football. I wish there was a barfing smiley face I could insert here.

This is the sarcasm pirate. If you see him anywhere in my post, it means I was being sarcastic. Thank you.

Re: The Super Bowl Stinks

The NFL is a marketing machine - they've done a perfect job of it which has made it the giant it is today. The NBA and MLB could only be so lucky.

So, it's only fitting the biggest game of the NFL season would also be the biggest marketing spectacle.

However, I do agree its over the top. But, things like the commercials, entertainers, etc - do get a lot of people interested in the game that wouldn't normally watch.

I like the Super Bowl because it is a football game. I can get past the hullabaloo of it all.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid all together.

EXACTLY - it's our last televised football for 6 months! It's one last taste... i refill the drink, grab some food, etc during the commercials/halftime...

If my team isn't in the game then I could care less... I like the commercials and the chance to get a group of people together but the game, eh...

Doesn't "The Big Game's" Pre-Game Show start in about 20 minutes?

But seriously, do they really need a 4 hour+ pre-game show? I would think that the people who care about the game already know what has happened during the season this year. Does John Q. Public really need a 4 hour recap?

I'll tell you a story, believe me it's true
a tale you'd best hope never happens to you
