If you are getting garbage anyway, isn't it almost better to just let him finish out the year and get that one year of service out of him? or trade him to a contender in June or July? or was his contract up before the end of this year?

Just stopped jumping around and saw that they didn't even have to add in their young OF prospect Martinez! Great trade.

So pretty much lose-lose-lose.......... I would have gone with the rest of Santana's contract and 2 first round compensation picks next year. You could pick up two college pitchers in the draft and be in virtually the same spot next year PLUS had Santana pitch for you...

Hopefully the Twins scouts see something in these four that no one else does.

I'm a mets fan so I love it!!!
However the twins didn't get screwed. They would have been screwed if they didn't get anything in return. However Gomez is a very solid fielder. avg hitter, with great speed!
Humber could be ready to start but not quite star potential yet. Guerra is an 18 yr old 6'5" 200lb kid. Could be a stud. If anyone knows pitching prospects it is the twins. Which is probably why Pelfrey was not included in the trade.
I don't know much about mulvey.

I'm just glad he didn't come out to the NL West.

I guess the Pohlad's get to keep some of their money and the fans wishing for .500 seasons. Sell the club if you don't want to keep the best players in the game.

That to me is 'screwed'.
Again, hope I'm wrong.

Now we will wait and see if a contract extension can be agreed upon. That will be the real clencher.

Santana's agent is the same one as Jose Reyes, too, which can't hurt.

It may turn out to be decent down the road, but I'd rather keep him this year and make a run. Seriously, how do you trade away the best pitcher in baseball for zero proven players? | | |

I'm a die hard Twins fan. As much as I hate to see Santana leave, at least we're getting something for him. Also, I'm happy he's not a YANKEE!!!!

I hope the Gammons comment is really wrong, because if it is, why wouldn't we take the Boston offer of their young CF and who ever they wanted to throw in? Has to be the money on both ends. Twins didn't did want to pay Ellerby and Co. and the Sox didn't want to pay Santana.
