And by decent, I mean the opposite of RonDL White, Sidney Ponson, Ramon Ortiz, Tony Batista, Bret Boone, etc............. Not this year there isnt... The top free agents out there would be:
1. Bonds
2. Lohse
3. Livan H
4. Tony Clark
5. Sean Casey
I could see them trying to get Shannon Stewart back and they probably NEED Livan more than anything, to eat some innings... They might also go after a guy like Josh Fogg... Another Free Agent sleeper might be Pedo Feliz, but where do you put him on the Twins...

Then I would say its a done deal.
I just thought it could be the same type of situation as the Cubs. Give away three players to only loose the guy after the current year. Man what a dumb move!

If the Twins could have got Martinez or Pelfrey included in this deal then I would have been okay with it, as it is right now, not the right deal. Personally I was never a big fan of the Boston deal, Hughes from the Yankee's had me very interested but the rest of that deal was pretty weak as Melky is a pretty good but not going to be all star CF and Ian Kennedy= Kevin Slowey. The Mets if they had included Martinez would have been the best deal but they didnt and that one player is huge. Part of this is based on the fact that evidently Santana said "trade me now or never", and if that's the case its a pretty dick move.
Even so I don't like the deal the prospects Twins get back are all high ceiling ones, if a bit further away than those offered in other deals. While the Twins could have competed for the Central this year, 2009 or 2010(the way things are setting up for that year could be special, we have our core under contract thru then, almost no one up for free agency and some of our exciting players in the lower minors should be ready by then) was probably more realistic anyways. Bad deal but life goes on and even with the deal Twins shouldnt be terrible, just not that good, my bet is another around .500 record maybe better depending on how Boof and Liriano do(the biggest question marks I'd say in the rotation)

I don't see why everyone is so down on Humber. He just came of Tommy John surgury and was 10th in ERA, 4th in K's and 1st in WHIP in the hitter friendly PCL league. The PCL ERA as a league was 4.67. I like his chances.
Mulvey as well, he had good, not great numbers in double A. Remember, it was his first season of professional baseball.
Both of those pitchers have low WHIP numbers and decent strikeout numbers. Neither one will probably be an ACE, but they'll fill out the staff nicely. I like our chances of finding a nice rotation out of Liriano, Baker, Bonsor, Slowey, Duensing, Blackburn, Perkins, Mulvey and Humber. Thats 9 guys to fill 5 slots. If Liriano comes back slow, we won't have an ACE, but Baker turned the corner last year and a slimmed down Bonsor could be very nice.

Humber has had 1 year above AAA. It was the year after Tommy John surgury and he still led the league in WHIP, was 4th in K's (and only 19th in IP) and 10th in ERA which was well below the league average. He did pretty darn good in AAA if you ask me.

humber will never be any more than a #3 which is definitely not worth Santana. They should have taken the yankees deal and got hughes as he will most likely be a 1 or a 2.

What a steal for my mets. I would have never thought they had a chance with the prospects we have. I just wonder how much cash were gonna have to pay him.

Blackburn, Duensing, Humber is possible, Guerrier is possible too he had one start in 2006 after Liriano and Radke went down, possible a fa veteran. Overall pitching is not a concern still should be in the top half of the league in terms of era, the reason they may go out and sign someone is the Twins love having a veteran or two around.
