There have been too many pitching disasters for a team to give 6 years to a pitcher (Zito, Brown, etc). I wouldn't count on another piece, if anything this will make him HARDER to trade because he is pricing himself out of the market.

6:15pm:SI.com is reporting that the deal is for $137.5MM for six years with a $7MM signing bonus added to Santana's 2008 salary. The total deal is worth $150.75MM. Ken Rosenthal confirms it. So, the Mets had to give in on six guaranteed years. 5:42pm: WFAN in New York City is reporting that the New York Mets and Johan Santana have agreed to a contract extension. The details have not been released but it is believed the deal is for six years beginning in 2009 with an average annual salary of $22MM. The deal is now pending a physical.
Earlier the Mets had requested and were granted a two hour extension to the 5:00 pm deadline for an extension.
