Who benefits more from the win?

I was going to do a write up about this, but frankly the time has got the best of me and so I figured a thread starter would be better.

The Super Bowl win last night by the Giants was just marvelous. Eli looked like a vetran, Patriots looked like they didn't even care, Bill Bellichik showed horrible sportsmanship, and I think that was the first time I have ever seen Tom Coughlin smile.

But what I wanted to get going was who benefits more from the win last night. Michael Strahan gets his Super Bowl, and now can retire. The Patriots get a sense of reality that no one is invincible. Tom Coughlin can now feel good for a short while about his job security.

For me, the ability of Coughlin to keep his job and keep implementing his style was the biggest benefit from last night. Strahan probably would have retired either way, he's had a lustrious career and wouldn't have been thought of any less if he didn't get a win. I've really like the style the Coughlin although it felt it's resistance at the beginning of his tenture with New York. It seems his mood has lightened slightly, and the players have stepped up as needed.

This past offseason you didn't see the hottest team in the NFL, I really think you saw the best team.

I didn't get to watch or listen to the post game after the game ended. What happened here? His typical dislike of the media and little answers to the many questions? Or something more?

When they put a second back on the clock, he just went to the locker room.

Yes he did have his typical dislike to the media. I don't even think he congratulated the Giants either.

But the part I was refering to was him leaving the field early. It was clear the ref was trying to let him know that the game wasn't over, and he pushed by him to get to Coughlin. Then proceeded to leave the field and his team. Just sad.

The real winner in all of this is the everyday NFL fan who can finally stop hearing about the Patriots.

Now if we can just get Favre to retire I can start watching the pre-game shows again.

I'm afraid that the Pats are going to be back in the race next year. If they resign Moss then you can bet on them being back at it. All you need to do is look at the AFC East. I love my Bills, but they aren't going to compete with them yet. Then you have the Dolphons and the Jets. I don't think anything further needs to be said there.

At the very least they'll be back in the playoffs as a division winner.

He had already congratulated Coughlin and half of the Giants at that point - why stick around and do it a second time?

I never said that it was bad sportsmanship, I was just pointing out what I assumed the other poster was talking about. I saw him congratulate Coughlin, but it still would have seemed classier to stick around for the lest second.

Because the game wasn't over yet. He doesn't have to shake hands and congratulate everybody a second time, but why do you get to field before the game is over?

In Randy Moss' last season with the Vikings, he was criticized (and rightly so, in my opinion) for leaving the field with two seconds left in a regular season loss to the Redskins. Belichick leaves the field with one second left in the Super Bowl and shouldn't be criticized?

Eh, do whatever you think should be done to Bellicheck. I think he's an *** clown and have little respect for the guy. I'm just stating it the way I saw it.

If it was by accident, as most people thought the game was over anyway, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. But I remember watching it and seeing the ref trying to step in an let Bellichick know whats going on, and he purposly ingnored him to say congrats and then proceeded to leave the field. He showed disrepect to his plays, the refs, and the NFL for his actions. I don't care he doesn't like the media, when your a coach, its your job to answer questions and not be a complete dick when doing it.

I respect Bellichik as a choach as he has mastered the salary cap to put together an almost undefeated team and three time Super Bowl champions. But as a person, I have no tolerance for his actions.

Its kind of in line with the UNLV coach. The refs have left, the opposing team has left. If you have an issue, bring it up later, but protesting on the field which allows your players and yourself to dispect the refs and the school is uncalled for.
