I find this hilarious/sad/dumb/transparent. FOX Sports on MSN - NASCAR - R. Gordon to appeal penalties for nose infraction
Just a few days ago, Stewart and Busch slam their cars into each other on the track causing potential danger to themselves and everyone else on the track. Then they get into a fist fight in the trailer. Penalty? Probation for 6 races.
NOW, an unapproved bumper cover? Docked points, $100K fines, suspended crew cheifs, probation for the rest of the year.
Am I missing something here?

You just put a NASCAR post in the Pro Sports section
JUST KIDDING!!! |
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

I agree that the penalties don't seem to be consistent. There is a pattern of these types of equipment violations with Robby Gordon's crews, though.
NASCAR takes tampering with the cars very seriously....much more seriously than the stupidity that Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart displayed.

Bumper covers spit in the face of the sanctity of the, um, sport.
Side note, what is up with the hideous Jap Tuner wanna be spoilers/wings on the back of the cars at Daytona? They looked like something off of a modified Civic.

It wasn't just Gordon's team that was given much more excessive fines and penatlies than Stewart and Busch did. As I stated a few days ago, NASCAR has a story now with the feud between Busch and Stewart so there is no way they will take them off the track. I just wish their penaties worked like football so you knew what the hell was going to happen on any given day.
I truly mean it when I say that this NASCAR is more like the WWE than any other sport I know, except maybe for NBA D-League.

That is an "invention" of NASCAR for what they dubbed last year the "Car of Tomorrow". It is basically another way to make every car exactly the same and take the fun out of racing.

I will watch a 1,000 local dirt track races before I will punish myself by watching one NASCAR race. Nothing but politics on asphalt.

Making unauthorized alterations to the vehicle does give a driver an advantage (presumably, otherwise why would they do it?).
Michael Waltrip paid dearly last year for having a "substance" in his intake manifold during qualifying. He was penalized severely because this substance was akin to MLB players taking performance enhancing drugs.
Not sure why this would be difficult to understand.

Not sure why this would be difficult to understand. So modifying your vehicle for an advantage (which is what NASCAR was originally built on) is more serious than physical harm to another human being?
Guess we will have to agree to disagree.

The COT seems more drivable. The punishment for Gordon is crap; just one more way for them to cut the little guy out of it.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree. Physical altercations are a part of every competitive activity. I suppose baseball players who get in fights and only get 1 game suspensions should get more than their counterparts that take steroids and get 25+ game suspensions?
NASCAR, just like MLB, needs to ensure its fans that the product they are paying money to watch is competitively fair to all participants.

AND, I don't know of any players who fight and only get a one game suspension. These guys fought and got NOTHING. NADA. SQUAT.
Even dire hard NASCAR fans think that the brass there have gone overboard with their continuing need to control EVERYTHING that goes on and their double standards.
