Re: STL Cardinals
Oh yeah! I know it's VERY early, but I'm really excited about what I've seen. Lohse has been my favorite surprise so far. He's looking sharp. I think he may have been po'd about not getting a big contract and wants to go show his stuff.
It's amazing that our starting pitching was supposed to be our weakness and the Cards team ERA is 0.96 after today. Here's to hoping it continues!

Re: STL Cardinals
Any love for Ankiel too? just pickin up where he left off.
I think Wainwright has the makings to be a stud in the league and just think of how much of a force the Cards can be once they get all those guys off the DL (fingers crossed.)
We are a somewhat early surprise, but not really considering Tony La Russa is still in STL. But it is a marathon, not a sprint, and we are currently playing the Nats.

Re: STL Cardinals
Really the entire staff from starters to bullpen have been good. The only time so far this season was that one inning franklin threw in the opener which costed us the game. It definitely seems like everybody is overacheiving at this point though and it could be tough to sustain it for 162. regardless i am a happy fan!

Love dem Cards....but is early!

Re: STL Cardinals
I know it's early, but I get tired of all the Cubs lovers on this board running the show. Wanted to give some early love to the boys in STL.

Re: STL Cardinals
I can't wait til they hit the wall...I'm a cubs fan and I am even impressed at how the Cardinals have started the season. But, sometime over the season something is going to happen, and I think they will faulter. Here's to hoping Pujols can stay healthy all year, Cubs fans are wishing he'd get hurt!

Re: STL Cardinals
5-1 and tied for first. Best start since 2000. Yes, Cards will likely struggle down the road, but this is a very impressive start for a team that was in some dire straits. It will be interesting to see how long this pitching can continue (remember, even Kip Wells threw 7 shutout innings early last season, and not much later he really took a dive).

I'm worried this might be the only time all year the Cards are 4 games over .500, but Brian Barton and Rick Ankiel are both doing awesome, and the starting pitchers are suprisingly good. This might be a better year than I thought it would be.

Re: STL Cardinals
Definitely a nice way to start the season. Is it sustainable? Probably not. But at least a lot of the "bottom-of-the-division" chatter has been quieted. Really, we've been about as good as I thought we could be, with the exception of Glaus. How many times has he struck out or grounded out with RISP and 2 outs? He's had about a million RBI opportunities and he's squandered damn near all of them. Once he comes around and provides that protection in the 4th or 5th spot, I think we'll be even more dangerous.
I seriously need to go buy myself a #24 jersey. I told my wife to get me one for Christmas and she didn't. Looks like it's time to take matters into my own hands. :)

Re: STL Cardinals
Oh yeah, did you guys see Ankiel's 9th inning catch yesterday? Maybe not quite Edmonds-esque, but a beauty nonetheless. Our OF could really be dangerous for the next few years, especially once Rasmus gets the call-up.
