Re: Marty Brennaman: Cubs Fans...

Isn't that Thom Brennaman's relative of some sort, who was fired by WGN (or "let go") many years ago? Yeah, he doesn't hold a grudge.

As a Cubs fan, we're not obnoxious. Every stadium has bleacher fans doing stupid things, taunting the other teams' OFers, etc, or some idiot drunks - isn't that the joy of afternoon baseball? None of us fans want outsiders jumping on any bandwagons, so we're a little selfish, and we're more self-pittying than anything (as a collective whole - i personally just grew up on them since i was a kid, so why wouldn't i defend them like any other fan)...

Lets discuss Red Sox "Nation" while we're at it... and Cards fans market themselves as the best in baseball (hmm, it's like Nebraska fans saying they're the classiest in CFB)... how are none of these the most obnoxious? Just putting it out there for debate... everyone has their opinion, and I don't really have a problem with either fan base, as I love the rivalry with the Cards.

Re: Marty Brennaman: Cubs Fans...

Marty Brennaman is the father of Thom Brennaman.

Here is the transcript of what Marty said. The color commentator is former relief pitcher and ESPN analyst Jeff Brantley

Throwing 15 or 18 [baseballs] onto the field, there's absolutely no excuse for that, and that is so typical of Chicago Cubs fans. It's unbelievable.

You simply root against 'em. Ya'know, I've said all winter they talked about this team winning the division, and my comment is they wont win it, because at the end of the day, they still are the Chicago Cubs, and they will figure out a way to screw this whole thing up.

Marty Brennaman is just pissed because 98% of baseball fans don't know who he is....

Re: Marty Brennaman: Cubs Fans...

throwing what onto the field?

and how does "always finding a way to lose" make the fans the most obnoxious...

I think Mary, errr, Marty is just a scorned ex... :)

If you're a baseball fan and have not heard of Marty Brennaman, that's your own fault.

Re: Marty Brennaman: Cubs Fans...

As a rather long time Cub fan I can see where he comes from, mainly as a Red broacaster he doesn't get to see a fan base that is loud and loyal. Red fans just stay home and leave a nice quiet stadium, where cub fans go and make noise and give their team support.
That being said, IF the cubs ever DO win the series, they may truely BE obnoxious for a while.

Well, the guy is an idiot and sounds like he has some serious sour grapes. First of all, 18 balls thrown out of how many thousands at the stadium that day? That's far from "Typical" not to mention, I live in the burbs of Chicago and almost never hear of any crazy fan uprisings going on on Wrigley. I think the guy should have far more intelligence and professionalism as a broadcaster than to blast the whole Cubs fanbase for the actions of 18 people. Out of a fanbase of how many? My grandfather was a Cubs fan. He never threw anything onto the field. In fact, I can't even remember him ever doing anything that a calm polite person would do. Anyways, it's poor broadcasting on his part. Tell us what happened, tell us you don't like it and then, STFU, very poor. And I'm not even a Cubs fan.

I'd still say that as a whole, their fans are up on the same obnoxiousness level as Red Sox fans.

Most fans of baseball have heard of Marty Brennaman. He's been the Red's announcer for over 30 years and is a legend.

Marty was white though I thought? I thought white people liked Wrigley Field? someone help me out...

#30 Wrigley Field « Stuff White People Like

Wrigley is an old stadium where people still pee in troths, but white people love paying top dollar to do this. They also like being around “real baseball fans”, even though most of the people in the bleachers are drunk rich frat kids that aren’t from Chicago and have no idea who Ernie Banks is.
that is funny every time i read it...
