Last I heard was a first rounder this year, a second next.
You must have missed some of the off season so far. The Vikings stated early that a good rush D-end was among their top 3 needs. They have already filled the wide receiver and safety slots, so this is a logical choice...and a great get in my opinion. The Vikes have also said they are going to live or die with T-jack and getting another QB isn't an option now. I also know the Vikes are satisified with their guards & line backing corp.

I do agree that we need a good pass-catching TE now and with McKinney in big trouble with the law, there will be a big hole to fill at left tackle too.

Re: Vikes Trade for Allen?

Vikes will love Jared Allen. He's productive not only in sacks but fumble recoveries, etc...He's all over the place basically. Plus, you get him on turf and maybe he picks up 1/2 step.

Are the Chiefs and Vikes doing training camp scrimmages again this year. That would be interesting.

The fans will love him

Another I am looking back at now was I'm glad I didn't patronize Jared Allen's Sports Arena and Grill that they were hawking you with flyers around the Sprint Center during the Big 12 Tourney in KC. Yeah that sounds a little bitter but why would you open a place up in KC when you had no intentions of staying there? Fans aren't stupid, I would assume that place will have a for sale sign on it here soon, can't imagine the KC fans are going to be giving that place much business now.

he will be missed by the fans in Kansas City. I have a feeling Carl is happy and hopefully next year the fans will be happy when Carl is gone.

Vikings are certainly looking better than the Chiefs at this point. The KC Royals have passed up the KC Chiefs for quality.

Even without Allen the Vikes were still looking better...

Re: Vikes Trade for Allen?

I love the chiefs, don't like King Carl, really liked Allen but would have puked if the chiefs paid him what the Vikes paid him. Maybe he will be the best DE in the NFL the next 5-6 years but the chiefs are rebuilding and can't afford to invest that much in one player. Of course they are rebuilding under King Carl so who knows if that investment will be worth it.
Like Keno, Allen cashed in on his great year.

Wonder how this is going to affect the Vikings Draft Party on Saturday? Not as much excitement without a first pick.

Re: Vikes Trade for Allen?

Yeah the draft will not be the same with out a 1st round pick. I was looking forward to a good draft weekend but some of the luster is gone. This will put a little more emphasis on the Vikings remaining picks but I think they will find some quality in the later rounds.

Who cares, we got Jared Allen! The Vikings got what they needed, someone to get pressure on the QB to help the secondary. This is better then taking a risk on an unproven talent. Look at past defensive ends the Vikings drafted; Erasumus James and Kenechi Udeze, good players, but no where near Jared Allen.

That is great to hear! I am so excited for the vikings season to start. We are going to be returning basically every starter from last year, plus the new starters at WR, S, and now DE.

The vikes really are going with the philosophy of winning in the trenches as we now have arguably the best O-line and D-line!

The comment about having zero sacks in the fourth quarter makes no sense. How many times were Chief's opponents trying to mount comebacks by passing in the 4th quarter last season?

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system.

From the Star Tribune:

UPDATE: The Vikings have called a 3 p.m. news conference to introduce Allen. We’ll have plenty of details throughout the day. Allen said on the Vikings web site (www.vikings.com) that he plans to visit Saturday’s draft party at Winter Park.

We don't know what his intentions were - for all we know he would have loved to stay in KC. Unfortunately they couldn't work it out.

I couldn't be less excited for Chiefs football this year. We could see the first in-game decapitation with the chiefs O-Line and Brodie Croyle.
