Is anyone planning on going to the Vikings draft party in Winter Park on Saturday?
Even though they won't have a 1st round pick, I'd love to go but I'll be coaching my son's team during prime time.

I think its a great pick up we got the Williams Wall in the middle and Allen on the outside for pass rushing (which we needed a ton last year). I think losing our frist round draft pick was a bummer but I think that Harvey kid from florida wouldn't of lasted to long in the draft might as well get a proven guy.

Dang. When you have a weapon like Peterson, you give him all the help you can.

Guys that would have been playing when Allen is long retired.

It's not like Allen is old. He's played 4 seasons and good defensive linemen can play for a long time.
The Vikings need immediate help at DE because they haven't been able to draft a good DE. I'm glad that they were able to pull in a player of this caliber who is also relatively young. He'll help the defense get the ball back into the offense's hands. It will allow the Vikings to run more because they'll have the ball more. They also won't be playing from behind as much so they won't have to pass as much. A great defense wins more games than a great offense.

Will Edwards have one too many drinks celebrating his new contract, and drive home?
Considering how much they gave up, and the holes elsewhere (for example, aside from an aging Darren Sharper, do you think the Vikes' safeties are great?), they're just delaying filling spots that need to be filled some day soon.

Filling the current holes on Vikings wasn't going to happen this years draft. The Vikings weren't in a position to get an immediate impact player for this upcoming season through drafting. I agree than a AP has a short life expectancy, so the Vikings needed help immediately and not 3 or 4 years down the road. They are still a very young team. 2/3 of their roster is 26 or younger.

The Vikings could have picked up an immediate contributor at right tackle, wide receiver or safety, not to mention adding someone like Tuba (have I mentioned that Pat Williams turns 36?) in the third round. Or two someones--Pat is hardly the only age spot.

This is probably the worst draft for receivers in a decade. Every analysis I've read has said the same thing. Also, maybe getting immediate help and getting immediate help are very different. Allen has been playing in the NFL for four years and has proven what he can do on the field. Drafting someone is a far greater risk than acquiring a veteran. Many more examples exist of high draft picks failing than highly paid veterans. I truly believe this was a win-win for both teams. The Chiefs are in rebuilding mode and these draft picks will help them immensely while the Vikings are trying to win now which Allen will help with immensely.
