Cowboys/Dolphins Pre-Draft Trade
ESPN - Cowboys trade Ayodele, Fasano to Dolphins for fourth-round pick - NFL
The Tuna sure loves to acquire players that he's familiar with. As a Cowboys fan, can't say I'm crazy about this.

Neither am I. I liked Fasano - but Bill was a much bigger fan of him apparently.

Sure seems like Dallas got the short end of the stick here.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers -
Re: Cowboys/Dolphins Pre-Draft Trade
Bill drafted Fasano with a second round pick a few years ago in a head scratcher since we had Witten. Ayodele was signed to a big free agent deal and still has, I believe, three years on his deal.
Neither move will cripple us, but it doesn't make much sense. One would think it's either to free up cash or to have more ammo to make a trade today.

Re: Cowboys/Dolphins Pre-Draft Trade
A fellow Cowboy fan just spun this to me in a way that makes it sound a little better.
We pretty much traded a backup TE and a MLB (when we have Zach Thomas to take his place) for Pacman Jones.

Re: Cowboys/Dolphins Pre-Draft Trade
I can't agree it was a wasted pick on Fasano. I think he has great potential and - not having a back-up tight end has burnt Dallas badly in the past. Ya don't want me to start listing the tight ends Dallas had behind Jay or the ones we had between him and Jason arriving.
Witten takes a lot of hits - he's been durable so far - but Fasano was a strong 2nd tight end that showed me he could start for a decent number of teams...including Dallas should Witten go down.

Re: Cowboys/Dolphins Pre-Draft Trade
I stand by the word "wasted." We invested a second round pick in a backup that gave us 14 catches per season. Then we package him with a starter and receive a 4th back.
He's an okay player. We didn't need him, we got almost nothing out of him (unless you want to count the dropped TD pass in the playoffs), and got very little in return with him. If we had a chance to do it again, no doubt we'd do it differently.
