Interesting read. What does everyone agree/disagree with?

From the one's I've been to, seems about right. I've been to US Cellular, Wrigley, Metrodome, Miller Park, Great American Ballpark and Coors Field, as well as old County Stadium. Can't say I liked Miller Park THAT much. They underrate GAB a bit, but I think they nailed US Cellular, Wrigley and Coors. I also don't think the Metrodome is horrible, but it's still bad.

living in KC I find it very hard to believe that the K is rated above Wrigley..maybe its becasue I am a cubs fan but still real interesting

Because it's hard to get tickets, and it's not a cheap experience.

The Fan IQ rating is a little high.

I also think they confused tradition and atmosphere for the Cubs. I think tradition is supposed to include championships of some sort.

Its interesting but not very useful. Take one subjective category and rate things and you already have room for argument. Take a bunch of subjectinve things and add them all together and you get a lot of nothing.

I can't believe the Metrodome is as high as it is. Can't wait for the new ballpark.

Tradition means a lot more than championships. Throwing the ball back after a visiting home run, that's a Wrigley thing. The Ivy on the walls, the manual scoreboard, drinking Old Style, singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, all that stuff is tradition.

So Jack Trice/ISU has no tradition(s)?

I didn't even read the article...I've got my own thoughts and preferences on what's good and bad (I feel I have some credentials to back me up ). Camden and Busch III are really well done stadiums, I love a game at The Ballpark in Arlington, Minute Maid is not good, Miller is a great design - the roof is horrible, Dodger Stadium might be the most overall beautiful (especially with the current renovations going on to it), everyone hates US Cell because of the Upper Deck and location, but it's a really good stadium, especially since the renovations at the beginning of the decade; yada yada... I'll be sad when Yankee Stadium comes down even though it's not very good as an overall design. Thankfully Boston, Chicago and LA won't bring those 3 down until they actually fall down, probably.

There was no way this thread was going to happen without a jab at the Northsiders.

Personally, I sat in the upper deck at Miller Park and felt like I was watching from Madison.

I think they're missing one important category: Aesthetics. I think that would boost several of the stadiums, like Kauffman.

I wouldn't really say they are Stadium Rankings as much as 'experience' rankings. The Nationals probably have one of the top 5 parks there is now. But the fact that tickets are expensive, the team is bad and new, and there is no parking at all probably kill it in a survey like this...

Upper Decks are designed based on only a few things:
1. Angle of degree of rise of Upper Deck
2. Extents the stadium can go "back" - the more room, the less angle.
3. Where the suites are located because the UD can't block the sight lines of the most expensive area. Owners of ballparks couldn't care less about how UD experience is as long as they have easy connections to Points of Sale (concessions/merchandise/etc).

Miller Park has some huge depths to the stadium, thus the UD goes further back at not as steep a slope as a place like US Cell. It just happens that way... sorry you felt like you were too far from the action. Not many new ballparks will be designed with the UD on top of the lower bowl like the Fenways, Wrigleys etc...

Eh, I'm rarely unhappy at a baseball game.

I still think Principal Park in Des Moines is one of the nicest parks I've been to.
