Why do Marty and Miller rag on the Barnstormers?

These guys are relentless on the Barnstorms. They have bashed them (and the league) all season. We all understand these aren't NFL calibur athletes but why bash everyone for going? Is Marty sour because the Energy can't draw squat?

They are leading the league in attendance and people have nothing but good things to say about the atmosphere, why try to bring down something that's doing well in the DM market??

Tickets are reasonably priced so why trash people for paying money to go? It's no different than paying $10 for a movie or to get into the Home and Garden Show...jeez, let people enjoy the games.

Is it because 1700 The Champ has the broadcast rights? I'm just annoyed that a minor league sport not named the I-Cubs is doing well here and the largest radio sports show in the area seems like they are trying to keep them down.

I'm a big fan of their show, but they need to be called out on this one.

Re: Why do Marty and Miller rag on the Barnstormers?

I was extremely disappointed in the attendance in this past weekend's game. We were up in the very top row of the 300 sections for the previous game as those sections were packed, and this past weekend they had the 300 sections completely curtained off.

Not sure why M&M bash the Stormers so much. Not sure what they have to fear. I mean, come on, they've only had 3 home games, and they're at .500 in their inaugural season. As Marty would say, "pipe down/calm down about it."

Re: Why do Marty and Miller rag on the Barnstormers?

Because it's not "real football" and Miller's a "football purist".

That was today's reason anyways.

I was a little disappointed in the attendance too, around 8k I believe? I was unable to go because I was out of town, but I'll definitely be there for the next one. Hopefully we can keep it around 10,000 for the season.

I'd guess Mother's Day weekend had something to do with that. The home opener was well attended and I've heard all others were very close, with exception to this past weekend.

I'm not sure why M&M rip on them - I have not listened to local radio for a few months now. This is actually the time of year where I don't listen to any sports radio until college/NFL football talk picks back up.

I can somewhat understand why arena football may not appeal to some people. I think I only counted 3 running plays for the Barnstormers through the entire game. One was completely blown up, one was accidental after the QB fell down, and one only went for a few yards.

I wasn't old enough to appreciate the original version of the Stormers, but for me, the current version is cheap entertainment. $12 tickets? Movie tickets are just shy of $10 each now and I-Cub tickets are about the same. Its great live entertainment.

Re: Why do Marty and Miller rag on the Barnstormers?

Marty and Miller are only stating their opinion, and they should not be hated for that. Marty had his incident happen this weekend, and all they were doing was talking facts.

They have zero problem with them, they are just saying how they feel, that's why they are great.

Now, they may be upset that they ever left Des Moines, and that may lead them to have a little animosity, but believe me, they only state how they feel. You have to like them for sayin what think, and accept it. If they kissed everyones a++ they wouldn't be honest.

And personally, I thinl you are going overboard with this, as they don't seem to be "BASHING" them, they are frank about their feelings, plain and simple. Once again, my opinion. They say what they think, that's why I like them and their show.

Re: Why do Marty and Miller rag on the Barnstormers?

Because controversy sells, and you don't have to support your "facts" when you just spout generalities like Tirrell does.

I listened for about 2 minutes today until Tirrell bagged on "every sports team in Iowa" by saying he "has personally experienced" fans of every team yelling F bombs, C-bombs and being generally degrading to women.

In my 15 years of being a season ticket holder, I can tell you if anything like that took place in my section the culprit would be summarily escorted out of the stadium.

He's still an East Coast shock jock just trying to fit into the Midwest, and although I don't dislike Miller, all he wants to talk about is hockey and horse racing, which don't interest me and don't really sell well in Iowa

What was the incident? I missed it. Besides that he turned 40 over the weekend.

Re: Why do Marty and Miller rag on the Barnstormers?

Tirrell has a little jealousy because he thought the Energy would be huge and that would be much more popular then the Barnstormers. Tirrell has a vested interest in the Energy as he does their play by play. I think it is clear that the Energy do not belong in this market but the Barnstormers, so far, do.

The Energy will become a better draw as they learn how to market it to the city (i.e. get even more locally known players). I only made it to one of their games this season but enjoyed it.

I Love It... A post "BASHING" someone "BASHING" Marty and Miller.... Excellent. The original poster was stating his feelings plain and simple. Cycloneworld says what he thinks and he gets bashed...

Thats a bad job outta ya... Get back to us later...

Marty is sour this went to 1700am. He hates the ownership since its not Krause or whoever his buddy is. He also believes its not real football, and truthfully its not. It's faster and their is more action. Not everyone will like it. Heck my fiance loves it more then ISU football... Yes That is REDICULOUS....

Marty doesn't draw a pay check from them so he feels he can bash as much as he wants. You only saw him bash the Energy on small things.... Why??? He works for them. He never ranted on like this. Just like he wont insult Channel 8, but everyother sports station or news unit he does...

I think this is spot on. Marty has a nice sized ego and its bruised because the Energy can't draw 2,000 but the Barnstomers (who he predicted wouldn't get as many to games as the Energy) are drawing close to 10,000.
