Seems to me like the risk/reward would be too great. Sure you could probably catch a hitter way off guard 1 out of 10 times but the other 9 times the hitter probably jacks the ball.

I threw it a couple times in High School. Nobody ever swung at it and threw it for a strike probably 4-5 times. The 5th the umpire told me it probably was a strike but we had such a big lead he didnt want to show up the other team.

Like the knuckler, it probably takes a bit of work to throw it right and most guys probably dont want to work hard on a 40mph pitch that might indeed just get jacked. | |
