What the hell is going on with our defense? Twins are currently 5th in the league with 34 errors to date.
Defense is what they teach in the organization, where is it going? Wont be a .500 team for long if this continues. Have a chance at challenging if they can get it under control.

Bartlett and Hunter were solid on D so it hurt losing them.

Lots of new young guys, Young, Gomez, and new players via trades. I think they will get it under control. They are usually a strong defensive team and can win because of it.

jt9046, how can you be a Twins fan and a Packers fan? That seems difficult.

You also have to remember that with all the new guys, they're probably not used to taking balls/hops off the turf AND reading fly balls in that grey dome. Heck, when I go to games, I can't even find the ball sometimes from the stands.

Grew up in the Twin Cities, but my dad and his 4 brothers grew up in Wisconsin. Pretty much gun point from birth to be a Packers fan. They left it up to me for the rest of my sports teams.
Also, I agree about Young and Gomez. 7 errors between them. Hard to rack up errors on the outfield, so those should come down.
I'm more worried about the infield. Everett and Lamb are veterans and they're have been 13 errors at SS and 3B. Easily could have been a lot more if we didn't have a stud in Morneau at 1B.

Mike Lamb and Brendan Harris are both known for their suspect defense which hurt the Twins to a good degree in terms of defense, also, for a supposed defensive wizard, Adam Neverhitt has been underwhelming.

I agree with mjones on this one, could be the adjustment to playing in the dome. Hopefully they can bring down the errors...
Good to talk Twins baseball. Nice post. Not many Twins fans at the school I work at. I do have some heating conversations with a Tigers and Cardinals fan however...

Not too much that Tigers fan can be saying right now. They're calling for heads daily around here, some even ready to get rid of Sheffield.

The great thing about this year is if the division stays around 500, the twins can sneak into the playoffs. Cleveland is who I'm most worried about.

I am very impressed how he has developed defensively. You can really tell he's put a ton of time in to improving that part of his game.
As far as the other infielders, I don't think it helps when we have a different group every night due to injuries, terrible hitting, etc. If they could run the same unit out a few times in a row it would help. The comfort level isn't there. Hopefully they can get some consistentcy one way or another.

Credits: 720,837 Year: 1994 Degree: Computer Engineering NFL: Steelers NBA: Bulls MLB: Twins | Living in the Land of Lakes currently, here is what I can tell you from watching them and reading the Star Tribune. 1. Injuries - Gomez hurt (though should return tonight), Punto hurt (this one REALLY hurts the D), Everett has a weak arm (bad signing in my opinion), Tolbert hurt (was playing really well until torn ligament in thumb), Baker hurt, Neshek out for season 2. Due to all the injuries, Gardy hasn't been able to adjust his infield as he wants to. Add the pitching injuries, and you have a lot of defensive errors. 3. Harris and Lamb are good hitters, but not great defensively. Harris really needs to work on turning the double play. 4. Lot of youth and learning going on. Yes, they have leaders that help, but youth is served is an understatement for the Twins. So, going to be inconsistent. | "Wanting it doesn't make it so. If it did, we'd all learn to want harder. I can already want quite vigorously, thank you very much." - Walter Slovotsky |

No team that plays on turf should have that many errors...
