Sox Sign Esteban Loaiza
They optioned Wassermann, which shouldn't be any surprise.
However, there's talk that Buehrle's hurt, and Loaiza will be brought in to serve as a spot starter as well as reliever.
Or, of course, this could just mean Masset is getting moved to higher-leverage situations. Or, that Masset could be the spot starter.

Re: Sox Sign Esteban Loaiza
Hmmm...that is an interesting move. The pitching certainly has been carrying the team...if he was cheap then I guess it can't hurt?
I am NOT endorsing this...but does anyone think the White Sox might think about Barry Bonds to help get this offense out of its funk?

With only 25 roster spots available, no team is in any position to have two LH power hitting DHs on the same roster. And with Thome's no trade clause and the season he's having, he isn't going anywhere.
Of all the free agent hitters out there, the only potential impact guy I could see them entertaining is Kenny Lofton. And I don't see that happening, either.

He looks like he might have jumped the shark? Anyway...I keep looking at the Dodgers...wonder what they would want for Juan Pierre? The NL West is BAD!

And while he hasn't been good, he's been better than Konerko and Swisher.
If they were going to try to trade for Juan Pierre, I think they might as well sign Lofton and save money and whatever they would have to give up in prospects. I think Lofton, at the least, could solve the leadoff problem against RH pitchers.

This team was SLOW a year ago and didn't get any faster in the offseason! Takes us 3 hits...sometimes 4 to score a run! Embarrassing! We knew this lineup would be troublesome!
That said...still in first place without hitting a lick!

Re: Sox Sign Esteban Loaiza
I don't think the lineup's lack of speed is the problem. It really comes down to Swish, PK and Thome being three of the worst hitting regulars in baseball.

True...they are hitting poorly for sure. But it is times like these that it would be nice to be able to manufacture a run or two! Which guy in our lineup can bunt? No one from 3-8!

I agree that speed isn't a problem. If they perform anywhere near what they should, in the long run, we'll have enough runs. Especially with this staff.

God, John Danks is fun to watch this year. If he pitched for the Cubs, he'd probably be 8-0.
