Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
Said he could be out 6-12 weeks as 6 weeks in cast and possibly another 2-4 weeks to gain strength to bat and field. I'm sure this was all in payback from lilly's toss at McCanns head last game. I would've loved to watch this game on ESPN but the ****in black the game out. I hate them ****ers when they do it.

Fracture of the 4th metacarpal with a small displacement.
This sucks!!

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
The injury bug is hitting the NL Central in force this week.
Wainwright, Pujols, Soriano. Looks like all the teams will be coming back down to earth. Although I hope not, since this is a fun year for baseball, so far.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
Cubs went 9-5 when he was on the DL earlier and they have capable bats in the minors. Guessing we'll see Hoffpauier and Murton both up with the big team this weekend.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
Well looks like will have Reed Johnson in left field...he's been good in center field. Put Jim Edmonds in CF and Fukudome in RF. If Johnson or Edmonds needs a day off they can always put DeRosa out in the OF and move Fontenot to second base. I'm not too worried about it right now, but I hope he gets this healed correctly the first time.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
i thinkin Hoffpauier will get the call in left and have a lineup of...
theriot
fukudome
lee
rameriez
Hoffpauier
soto
center fielder
derosa
i really like that lineup

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
I do think you'll see Hoffpauir get some time in LF as well as he swung the bat plus he is left handed. I think he played at least 1 game there when he was up before. Plus Cubs are carrying 13 pitchers right now, Murton could get a callup too. I'm not so sure Johnson and DeRosa are shoe ins as the every day LF while Soriano is out. Going to be a mix of guys at first I think to see who can provide the most offense.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
I'm thinking that Murton will likely get called up.
Demp should have drilled the first batter he faced the next inning. This is just like the Cubs' luck. An All-Star for a division rival goes down one night, an All-Star on the Cubs goes down the next night.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
As others have said - we made it by without him already this year. We'll be fine. Hopefully he comes back and lights it up again, but I think we'll be just fine.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
As long as everyone is healthy after the Allstar break.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
I think Piniella already said he was bringing Hoffpauir up for the interleague games and sending a pitcher down. I'm not sold on Hoffpauir in the OF. As bad as Soriano was defensively, Hoffpauir could be worse.
Murton is a logical guy to replace Soriano on the roster. I could see Pie coming up, but he's still not hitting well. Patterson is hitting very well at Iowa, but they'd have to juggle positions around to make room for another middle infielder. Maybe there's someone at AA they want to try in Chicago.

Re: Soriano out 6 weeks
Lots of options, lots of options....
It could be September before the guy is playing decent and then it takes a while to get back into the groove.
I like Johnson a lot on the defensive side and Haufpier swung the bat pretty good when I saw him play.
It's about time for an injury. I'm just glad it wasn't a pitcher.

I think this is the biggest thing - with interleague road games coming up, the Cubs already needed to bring an extra bat up. With Daryl Ward out, they didn't know exactly which way to go. The bench won't be as deep for the interleague games, that's for sure...
We'll get through this. As high as we've been the first 2.5 mths, the injury bug was going to hit the cubs at some point. Hopefully this also allows Soriano's legs to get COMPLETELY healed and rested. But hands are bad to be injured... we remember Lee breaking his wrist and he wasn't the same after he came back until the next season.
We'll see how it goes...
