Kobe may be the best ever...
the best 1st quarter player ever, that is...
I'd probably put him in the top 1000 somewhere as a 2nd through 4th quarter player, though...

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
wow, that's just ignorant. start sarcasm...a lot of MVP awards are won in the first quarter alone...end sarcasm.

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Kobe is a huge ballhog. And he never trusts his team mates when he needs to. I would hate to play on Kobes team especially after reading Paul shirleys book about how big of a jerk he is

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Kobe is an all-star NBA player. Paul Shirley told it how it is. I'm sure Jordan wasn't the friendliest of teammates ever, not that I'm comparing the two. Kobe isn't even in his league. He might be the best ever from 2005-2008; along with KG, LeBron, and Steve Nash....

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
He's disappeared at times in this series. I keep waiting for him to put this team on his back and carry them to a win like Lebron did against the Pistons last year. He's got a half of basketball to do it.

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
To those that say Kobe is the best ever (there are a few that say that)...
I think Kobe has some great talents but to say he's even in the caliber of MJ at any point of his career (pre-retirement comeback) is a joke. MJ was a better team player, better clutch player, better defender and just an incredible all around ambassador for everything sports.
Kobe is a great player in any stretch of the imagination but he's selfish, childish, complains a lot and still hasn't figured out how to truly lead his team. He does a lot good but he misses on several marks.
Kobe might be the best player at this point in time but there are others I'd much rather pull for and have on my team. KG, Lebron, etc, etc...
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -
Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Kobe is a great player, but with MJ you knew he would do whatever he could to win, and then some. He had the will to win flat out.
Go Celtics!

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Obviously there's a little sarcasm in my statement. It sure seems like all series long though, kobe has come out on fire. Then, pretty much disappeared.
Here he is. The biggest game of his life to this point. Elimination game. 2nd quarter stats.
0-4 from the field
3-3 from the line (all on technical foul free throws)
2 TO
0 Assists
0 Steals
1 Rebound
In the meantime, Boston takes the 2nd quarter, 34-15...

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Kobe is a great baller but MJ was a great player and finisher.
The ability to finish and take over is what makes somebody move from being great to being legendary. Kobe is great, MJ is legendary.
MJ and Woods are perfect examples of why being the best isn't enough, being the best at the right time is what matters.

Yeah that makes me laugh every time they show it and you get a glimpse of the $8 million ring that he bought his wife after the big rape lawsuit. Nothing says I love you like hush money A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -
Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Couple things:
I am a huge Kobe fan. Huge. But I am sick of him this series. Step up man. You look like a different player. And I don't want to hear how it's the C's defense. How can he score so much in the first quarters and than not even shoot in the first half. If he does not shoot 20 times in the second half than I will be very disappointed. Also with Boston in the bonus he never took it to the lane!!! WTF?
Kobe (minus this series) is always at his best in the 4th quarter. Look at the Spurs series and even game 3 of this series. He is a gamer and knows how to take over.
Cyclonedefender is wrong and ignorant in claiming that Kobe is a ballhog. IMO he needs to shoot more. MJ averaged 5 more attempts a game than Kobe. That is a lot more shots, but yet Kobe is a ball hog? Give me a break.
I agree with Jeremy that Kobe still has learned how to lead a team. He forces it to much. It just doesn't come natural to him. I would take him in a heartbeat over KG though. Kobe is learning but right now he needs to not worry about being a great teammate and needs to worry about winning a basketball game

Re: Kobe may be the best ever...
Also everybody needs to get off MJ! Great ambassador for the game Jeremy? He had/has a horrible gambling problem, had several mistresses, and was no nicer to his teammates than Kobe is. Michael was better but let's not make him out to be some saint and Kobe to be the devil.
