Jaguars’ Jones arrested on felony drug charge

People's stupidity continues to amaze. As if it wasn't stupid enough to be doing it in the first place, jeopardizing his career, he couldn't wait until they got back home or to a hotel room? From Yahoo!Sports
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP)—Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say officers found him cutting up cocaine with a credit card Thursday morning.

The 25-year-old Jones and two other former Arkansas football players were inside a Toyota SUV in Fayetteville just after 12:40 a.m. Thursday when officers approached. Officers saw a card covered in a white powder in Jones’ lap as he used a credit card to scrape it, a police report said.

Officers opened the door and ordered Jones to put his hands in the air. According to the report, Jones kept his left hand out of view, forcing at least one officer to draw his handgun.

Jones, 25-year-old Jared Hicks and 26-year-old Benjamin Cook were arrested. Officers say they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

Officers questioned Jones and he acknowledged the white powder was cocaine, the report said.

The team was waiting to learn details of the case before commenting. “We’re trying to investigate that now,” Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said of Jones’ arrest. “We don’t have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts.”

Jones was being held Thursday at the Washington County jail on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Officers say Hicks had a small plastic straw coated with suspected cocaine behind his ear. Both Cook and Hicks face misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither was in jail Thursday morning, officials said.

Don't NFL athletes get tested a lot?

Not much in the off-season, from what I understand.

Which is why the NFL drug testing is a joke. You don't get tested in the offseason untill you fail two tests. Not alot of people are going to cylcle in season.

I agree they need to address that, however I doubt any other sport is testing in the offseason. I very well may be wrong in that.

Here is an artcile detailing NFL drug testing policy. Looks like the NFL can test you up to 6 times per offseason.

Put to the test: A closer look at the NFL's efforts to catch steroid users : North County Times - Californian

Additionall, here is a blog from Chris Cooley describing the process. Pretty funny, actually. The look on his face in the pic is priceless.

Here's the important info if you don't like reading.

Testing for steroids

The following applies to NFL layers without previous documented steroid involvement:

Pre-employment: Tests may be administered to free agent players (rookie or veteran) and at testing and timing sessions of draft-eligible players.

Preseason: All players are guaranteed of being tested at least once during the year. This usually occurs during training camp.

Regular season: Players on every team are tested each week, selected randomly by a computer program.

Postseason: Random testing continues into the playoffs for teams still competing.

Offseason: Players under contract can be tested up to six times.

Well, since Matt was probably going to get cut or ride the bench from here on out anyway thanks to the influx of receiver talent the Jags got,

Good riddance buddy

Man, I hope that when you say a word like talent you are not referring to Troy Williamson. That's like saying Barney Fife is a decorated police officer.

Its bad enough he's doing coke but why do it in a parked car? Some people are so reckless. Atleast do it at home or something.

Not his fault he had to deal with T-Jax and Brad Johnson

Yea yea dropped passes whatever, reports from training camp say he's been catching stuff everywhere (granted I'm sure the gold and teal glasses are on in all those reports)

Between Reggie Williams, Jerry Porter, and Troy the Jags are going to have a fun day come Nov. 23. Not that they'll need to because Freddie and MJD are gonna pound the heck out of the Viqueens

Are you seriously saying the Jags are going to try beating the Vikes by running the ball? Seriously? I hope they do. Good luck with that.
