I agree, from a general fan perspective, I'd love to see Favre as a Viking on that first monday night in September.
But, as a follower of the team, I'm not so sure I'd be entirely comfortable rooting for the guy I loathed for so many years.
It'd be like if Drew Tate jumped ship and came over to Ames. I would probably never go to Burger King anymore... |

I have been a long time Packer fan and Favre fan. If he chooses to play for any other team, I feel that he has taken a remarkable career and in the very last year pissed all over it and the fans in green bay. He takes himself from images better than Bart Starr in Green Bay to something on the lines of Wesley Johnson right now with us.

Not quite sure about that.
He asked to come back yesterday during a conference call with all parties involved.
the Packers said no.
the people in GB will be at Thompson's door with pitchforks...esp once Rodgers eats it.
SF fans still love Montana.

*sigh* I was so afraid of this. I can't picture Brett in any other uniform than the green and gold. I REFUSE to accept even the slight daydream of him going to the Vi-queens or any other NFC north team for that matter. Teams like the Panthers and Bucs need quarterbacks.
However, I would only want Brett to come back to the Pack.

I'm a huge Packers/Favre fan, but have to admit he has put the organization in a real pinch with his announcement. Not to mention, I'm sure Rodgers is feeling even more pressure to perform to prove they made the right choice.
Also, I've heard a few teams thrown out there as picking up Favre, but no one has mentioned Miami. I thought they were weak at Quarterback, and Parcels loves the vetrans. I'd think they would be a leading candidate.

SF fans still love Montana. Favre had many opportunities to play again this year and waiting until this late in the game after all the times he has been going back and forth is what I am saying. You can't just say that Favre had nothing to do with pissing on his legacy going to another team just because Thompson isn't willing to have open arms every time he comes back. I'm just giving you the opinion of all the Packers fans that I have talked to. SF are more about that "brotherly" love if you know what I mean.

SF fans still love Montana. Did Montana hem and haw several consecutive years about whether to retire or not, finally officially retire, than say, "Oops ... nevermind"?

all that is moot. It is Thompson's/McCarthy's job to field the best team possible.
winning is all that matters. winning right now.
and Favre gives them the best chance.
Too many egos involved.

and all of these fans will be up in arms when Rodgers goes down again....and there is no one to turn to.
again...I am not defending Favre...but it is Packer's management's role to field the 'best' team possible.....and those qb's there now are not it.

Too many egos involved. I was referring to the SF fans still loving Montana. The situations are completely different, and the likelihood of GB fans disliking Favre are higher, IMO, because of how Favre handled the whole thing over the past several years, with this being the icing on the cake. Not to mention the number of SB wins each brought to their respective cities.
As for Jordan, I'm not sure which come back you're referring to. The first one, he was still the best player in the game after getting back into BB shape. The Bulls would have been absolutely, positively insane not to take him back. I'm not sure the same can be said about the Packers and Favre right now. The second one, he made a mistake and took a little bit away from his legacy, IMO.

I think all of this will depend on how upset Favre is with Green Bay for them apparently not wanting him back. I can see him wanting to go to the Vikings or Bears so he can stick it to the Pack at least twice a year.
Also, one report I heard said he had asked for an "unconditional" release, so maybe it is possible for the team to limit the teams he can consider.
I am a long time Vikings fan......since the franchise started......but I am not sure I want to see him on the team. Just not sure it would be the best thing. They really need to develop their young quarterbacks, and granted he could be a great teacher, but it could go bad too.
