Packers say they have a new offense implemented this year with AR. My porediction - three plays and out. The thing about Farve was you never knew what he would do. He was a risk taker.

Re: Favre asks to be released

The Packers have released a statement:

The Green Bay Packers are aware of the latest developments regarding Brett Favre.

Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion.

Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement.

The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team.

As a retired player, Brett has the option to apply for reinstatement with Commissioner Goodell. If that were to occur, he would become an active member of the Green Bay Packers. As always, the Packers will do what's right and in the best interest of the team.

As with all Packers greats, Brett's legacy will always be celebrated by our fans and the organization, regardless of any change in his personal intentions.

Brett and Deanna will always be a part of the Packers family.
If it gets down to it, I wonder if they'll eat the $12 million they'd owe Favre this year.

As for Ted Thompson, Packers fans have been up in arms since before Mike Sherman was fired, as particularly evidenced by their response to recent drafts. I think Thompson's done an excellent job. If you want a source:

Re: Favre asks to be released

Here's the thing. I've looked up to Brett Favre since he got to Green Bay in 1992. I (and a lot of other Packer fans) have started to grow weary of the "will he or won't he" retirement thing. At this point, I think Rodgers is more important to the organization than Favre. I saw enough in the Dallas game last year (and in preseason) to be convince he's ready. Having an all-star QB isn't as important as having a great team (see: Trent Dilfer, Vinny Testaverde, Kyle Orton)

I guess when it comes down to it the image that's stuck in my mind is this shot of Favre's last pass in the NFC Championship game...

Re: Favre asks to be released

I think this situation has gotten out of hand, but first of all

1. The packers will never release favre to the vikings, so viking fans forget it, he is under contract with the packers and they hold all the cards. Favre can ask to be reinstated and then the packers would have 24 hours. They would likely put him on the roster and maybe trade him, they would be dictating where he could end up

2. I hope he just stays retired, he is turning 39 and it is a perfect time for him to stay retired

If he is traded, nothing stops the team that acquires him from trading him to a team such as the Vikings or Bears. The Packers are not going to be happy no matter which way this turns out.

I feel kind of bad for the Packers as it will be a PR nightmare almost any way you slice it.

have you BEEN to Green Bay?? Favre could burn an american flag, wipe his butt with it and profess his love for communism in the middle of wisconsin and our fans would still love him.

Now playing for another NFC North team...well, thats a horse of a different color.
