Pudge traded to Yankees
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3511535
Dumb move by the Tigers. At least get the Yanks to throw in a prospect or something. Everyone knows the Yanks needed a catcher once Posada went down so why do them a favor and take a nutjob like Farnsworth off their hands and not get any kind of prospect too even if it was a minor one? Yankees do this every year and no one seems to take advantage that they hold the leverage when the Yanks need something.

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
I saw that. The Tigers must be throwing in the towel for this year.
Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. -
Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
That is a steal for the Yankees. The Tigers needed just one crappy pitcher in return?

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
wow.. that is just insane
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -
Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
Farnsworth did well for Detroit in 05. The Tigers have enough offense. if they're going to make a run, they knew they needed better pitching -- especially in the bullpen.

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
I agree. The Tigers were looking for pitching to get back into the division race (which, they kinda already are....sorta....) but you CAN'T give up that kind of batting production. This just indicates that they think they were gonna get outhit by the sox and twins anyways, pudge or no pudge. I'm not so sure.
edit: reguarding farnsworth - he's been pretty good of late. until a bad outing on monday, his era has been going down since like, may. his last run allowed (until monday) was a month ago. Don't let the 3.65 era fool you. Looks like he just had a bad couple weeks in may, which was a long time ago

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
Rodriguez, who is in the final year of his contract, waived his no-trade clause to join the Yankees, sources told ESPN.com.
This isn't a big deal... he is just a rental... That is why the Tigers didn't get a lot.
I'll never forget Farnsworth absolutely beating the crap out of Paul Wilson from the Reds a few years ago.

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
It's not that insane, Pudge is in the last year of his contract, has zero power anymore and his defense is actually suffering. They weren't even going to try and sign him because they have Inge who is a catcher and been riding the pine since they picked up Cabrera.
The one thing I don't get is Farnsworth, especially since the Tiger pen is FINALLY healthy with Zumaya and Rodney throwing gas again.

Detroit has scored more runs than both the Sox and Twins, despite their dismal start. They have enough offense, which is why they could afford to do this.

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
I know that Pudge is getting old and in the last year of a contract but this is still the Yankees and trades like this help teams make the playoffs so that alone it worth getting more than nutjob Farnsworth and his control issues I think. Yankees have talent and money, make them spend some of it instead of trading away a guy they can afford to lose to patch up a weak spot for them right now.

They're chasing a division championship, not the wild card.

Re: Pudge traded to Yankees
If you look at alot of the trades that have happened lately, guys in their last year have not had alot of value. Look at Texiera, in his prime and the Angels didn't have to give up much at all.

Farnsworth is not a guy that is going to single handedly going to make up 5.5 games alone. The whole team is underachieving after all the money and trades they spent in the offseason. This was a trade to make the Yankees better not the Tigers IMO.

But they are so sporadic... they've also been shutout a league high 11 games this season. That with the second highest payroll in the league.
They need a starting pitcher to make a run at the Twins and Sox.
