Things are shaping up for MLB's biggest nightmare...

Phillies vs. Rays World Series. It would be a ratings disaster. In fact, I think Rays vs. anybody sets itself up to be a poorly rated series.

I admit part of me is a bitter White Sox fan, but I'm also realistic.

A Phillies vs Rays World Series would be horrid for TV ratings.

Yet, that is what I want. I like to see new teams in there.

This just in: the 1980 Phillies-Royals World Series is the highest-rated Series ever, at 32.8.

Based on that, I doubt a Phillies-Rays Series would be a disaster.

I think a lot of people are rooting for the Rays, but I don't know how many of them will actually tune in.

No, what Fox was absolutely dreading was Twins-Brewers.

The World Series lost it's maximum appeal when the Cubs got swept. Had the Cubs made it, Cubs-Anyone would have had massive appeal. Cubs-Red Sox probably would have been best.

I don't think Rays-Phillies would be all that bad.

No Florida team should ever be allowed in the World Series, let alone postseason play. Their attendance alone should disqualify them. If CA can get fans to the games, why not FLA? Pathetic.

I am happy the Rays won though. Can't stand the White Sox, and Ozzie Guillen can go play in traffic too. Hopefully AJ can run with scissors too.

Why?

I'm pretty sure just the fact alone that one half of the the World Series is going to feature a team from Los Angeles (#2 media market) or a team from Philadelphia (#4 media market) alone will prevent it from being a ratings disaster. Also, it's not like Tampa-St. Pete is a slouch of a media market either - they're sitting at #14. Not to mention that a good chunk of America will be pulling for Tampa at this point (maybe not Cubs fans, though - the last thing they need is yet ANOTHER first-timer winning a World Series before them).

Why? Because fan attendance was suddenly the sole determinant for who deserved to win a championship

At any rate, can you blame Floridians for being less than excited about pro baseball in the state? Marlins fans have to drive out to the middle of nowhere to see a game, and Rays fans have had nothing but some of the worst baseball to watch for more than a decade.

The drive to the Trop is not alot of fun either...

I think any of the matchups right now would be pretty good for ratings.

Obviously an LA vs. BOS series would be best. Two big markets, alot of history, Joe Torre, Manny coming back to Boston etc.

Some of those Phillie teams in the past got decent ratings, this one is very good and very media friendly (except Brett Myers). Who doesn't like Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino?

The Rays are the story of the year. Evan Longoria is a star in the making and the Rays are built to hang around for a long time...

Personally, i am hoping for LA vs. TB but see it the other way, Boston and Philly.

Dodgers v Rays. Play baseball in temperatures it's meant to be played in.

Probably the case - I have no idea where that one is located.

If the Rays get that new stadium built, however, watch out - they'll be a player in the AL East for YEARS...
