Dempster will be a Cub next year. Payroll is going up and he has said several times as recently as a day ago he wants to stay in Chicago. These aren't the Royals we are talking about. There is plenty of money for Demps and Jake P.

The Padre's most definitley have interest in Cedeno, considering K Green is on the block.

If it takes Smardjzia and Marshall to get Peavy, so be it. I'll take a proven Cy Young winner over a guy who had a good rookie second half any day. Peavy is still very young.

If the Padres trade Green they will expect someone GOOD in return. Dempster will get a MUCH better offer from LA and probably San Diego too, teams that are for sale rarely get free spending...

I always think its funny how people think their teams can trade spare parts for good players...

Derek Lee broke my fanntasy baseball heart last year when he stopped hitting homeruns in the second half of the season. I thought the summer wind at Wrigley would help him more

Of course they will expect someone good in return, but when is the last time a team traded a guy like Green and got an equal guy that plays the same position. I'm not saying Cedeno is green's caliber, but if they do trade Green it will be for several players not one short stop. Of those several players they get I doubt they will land a short stop better than Ronnie. It will be about getting several quality players not one for one equal value. Kevin Towers has inquired about Ronnie in the past, he has interest.

Trading Cedeno, Marshall, Pie and Smardjzia would hardly be considered spare parts for Jake Peavy.

Smardjzia and Marshall alone would probably do it... Cedeno isn't an MLB starter so I don't see the interest there anymore. If the Braves can convince Peavy they can still be good losing Yunel Escobar (who they will have to trade to get him) then he will go there...

He's a starter if you trade an "A" caliber player like Green for two or more "B" Or "C" caliber players like Ronnie. If they trade Green for let's say two or three players, who is out there available that is better than Ronnie? Again, I'm not saying he's a great player but who is out there that would be available and would be a legit upgrade over Cedeno? Plus, even if he's not an everyday starter for some clubs, he could be for San Diego. Hell, they have Giles as their starting second baseman. My point is Cedeno would fit in nicely there and it's about what they can afford.

But if all they want is Marshall and Jeff S, I make that trade yesterday. The Cubs get a proven #1 and only give up a somewhat unproven (in the long term) rookie and a # 4 starter at best.

im 99.9% certain tha dempster will be a cub next year no matter what happens. and honestly losing Samardzija (learn to spell that name for god's sake) wouldnt be that big of a hit to the team. bring up a jose ceda, or ascanio and you arent actually getting a huge drop off. if you look at samardzija's stats they werent mind boggling, and at the end of the year people were figuring him out... he has the tools to be dominant though. the has the nasty 2 seam fastball and the splitter, he needs a breaking pitch to be a starter and his slider really isnt that good right now

Re: Peavy to the Cubs?

i think the cubs will ship marshall and samardzija to the padres, and throw ronny cedeno in there just because there really isnt a NEED for him in chicago and it will make the deal more attractive for the padres because they could trade khalil greene away for some pieces

Cubs would be well off to actually address their bullpen.

I say Get Peavy, and Sabathia.....

Let Cedeno (407k), Marquis (6.375 million), Wood (4.2 million), Bobby Howery (4.5 million) and Dempster (7.333 million) go. We have some great arms in AAA that can be moved up. Thats almost 22 million cleared up

(2008 salary)

rotaion of:

Zambrano
Peavy
Lilly
Harden
and then Sabathia

Would be scary

Found Gene's new job - Coaching was just a coverup

I am hearing Fontenot is being dangled instead of Cedeno...which sucks, I kinda like "Little Babe Ruth". Peavy is coming, Dempster I hope keeps the faith and takes less years...

Anyway, if there is anyway we could somehow unload Howry, I would actually help with a donation...that guy is terrible.

Go Clones!

Howry is a free agent and won't be re-signed. Marquis still has another year though and the Cubs would likely have to eat most if not all his salary to deal him to another team.

When Rich Harden is on your staff, it needs to be a worry.

Bullpens are SO up and down. It's something you have to address every single year.
