Additionally, name me another player that can shoot a ball to rt field as consistantly as Theriot (a huge advantage when a runner gets on in front of him,........... taking advantage of the big hole on the rt side)
Defensively I'm not sure Greene offers much more than Theriot either. Greene fields at a .976 clip lifetime while Theriot is at .977.
If I'm Hendry, I stick at the SS position. dont get me wrong buddy, i love theriot, but the two players are a wash defensively, and theriot really doesnt have a good spot in the line up for the cubs, hes a leadoff hitter really, but thats occupied by the $138 million dollar mistake. he doesnt have any power for a 2 spot... the 8th spot is okay for him, but again, zero power and with the pitcher behind him.
Greene brings some pop to the plate, he hit 27 HR in 2007 and you have to remeber that he plays in petco park, the most pitcher friendly park in baseball. in wrigley he would consitantly hit 25+ homers. i think greene and theriot is a wash overall, but the padres want to dump salary and in particullarly greene's contract
which do you want, cubs with theriot at SS and no jake peavy or the cubs with greene at SS and Jake Peavy on opening day

Theriot averages more hits per season, and less strikeouts. True Greene had 27 bombs in 2007, but that was his high water mark. Over his career thus far he has averaged half that many (closer to 15).
For a guy that "doesn't have a good spot in the lineup" Theriot has been pretty productive. There will be plenty of other suitors for K. Greene where he would actually be an upgrade. The Cubs won't need to get involved with him, as they have plenty of bargaining chips if they truly wnat to add Peavey to the staff.

Credits: 509,852 NFL: Chiefs MLB: Cubs | Peavy Pursuit Affects Dempster, Wood
By Tim Dierkes [November 11, 2008 at 10:03am CST] Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune writes today about how the Cubs' pursuit of Jake Peavy affects their efforts to re-sign pitchers Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood.
Sullivan believes Dempster would be less likely to give the Cubs a discount if they acquire Peavy, who is set to earn an average of $15.75MM per year. Jeff Blair, on the other hand, heard Dempster would be willing to give the Cubs a discount due to his desire to be part of a Cubs super-rotation. It seems that Dempster wants five years and $70MM. Sullivan says the Cubs offered $50MM over four years, while Ken Rosenthal pegged it as closer to Kyle Lohse's $41MM.
Would acquiring Peavy and retaining Dempster leave any money for Wood? Wood anchors the Cubs' pen, and his Chicago/Jim Hendry loyalty runs deep. Still, the Cubs would probably have to offer a multiyear deal. Unloading even half of Jason Marquis' $9.875MM could go a long way.

Bullpens are SO up and down. It's something you have to address every single year. We can "address" our bullpen in-house, or at least later in the off-season. It's certainly not something they need to go and spend a bunch of money on in free agency. We tried that with Eyre and Howry. That worked out like a charm.

Cubs have a lot of players they could target this offseason:
Jake Peavy
Rafael Furcal
Brian Roberts
Raul Ibanez
who would be the most important? a switch hitter in the infield, a lefty veteran outfielder, or another ace

Looks like it is a done deal to the Braves... I was told the Cubs never made a serious offer that could compete...

By Tim Dierkes [November 13 at 9:35am CST] Gordon Wittenmyer talked to his sources and agrees with Lou Piniella's indication that the Cubs are not serious about Jake Peavy. Wittenmyer believes San Diego sources were putting the Cubs rumors out there to drive up the price. He says the Cubs are focused on acquiring an athletic lefthanded hitter this winter.
Wittenmyer says Raul Ibanez, Jeremy Hermida, and Brian Roberts remain on the radar. The latest word on Hermida is that the Marlins will need to be "wowed" to move him.

Hermida is legit. That guy is going to be good... Didn't Ibanez play at Indian Hills?

chizik ( chiz-ick) verb, -ed
1)To leave in a lurch
2)To build hopes and dreams on talk of integrity and leave before attaining goals.

I would be shocked if this happens! If u ask me, I think Kevin Towers is doing a LOT of window dressing here... even Lou said the much bigger need is a left handed bat... When the Peavy drama finally unfolds, I think ol' KT is going to be left looking pretty foolish

He isn't going to throw his players under the bus like that. Him saying they aren't interested in Peavy doesn't mean they still aren't going to get him.
