I think Gregg will help fill in a gap and then if they can figure out a way to get Peavy they could be set up for another nice run that leaves me saying "There's always next year" again come October. Pitching was not the problem for the Cubs failure in the playoffs. It was poor hitting and a left-handed power hitter should be high on Hendry's list for the winter. You can never have too many quality pitchers and I admit I don't know much about Gregg, but he can't hurt. He may help setup Marmol or Wood. I think Wood will be gone, however.

Cubs are also trying to go after Raul Ibanez from the Mariners. DeRosa would probably end up playing more second base. That is a stellar line up with Soriano leading off, Theriot, Lee, Ramirez, Ibanez, Soto, DeRosa, Fukudome

Gregg may be trade bait, and Marmol would be the likely closer I think if Wood leaves.

This sucks. Kevin Gregg is lousy. He better be in a middle relief role. What a lousy day. I hope Kerry Wood signs with a good team in the AL.

St. Louis could've easily been a playoff team without all the blown saves. Their O and D is perfectly fine where it is. So is their starting pitching. All they need is to get healthy and get some pitcher(s) who can close a damn game. Izzy just didn't have it this year and no one stepped up there. I'll take 10 wins over .500 as a rebuilding season...Looking forward to next summer.

If you think the cardinals only have 1 need you are crazy. Look at the OF, the ENTIRE bullpen, and look at you SS.
Ryan Ludwick will actually match his numbers from this past year (yeah right!), Ankiel started to rapidly decline in August/September, and Skip Schumaker is well, Skip Schumaker. Another year of Cesar Izturis may force many cardinals fans into heavy drinking.
Nobody in the cardinals starting rotation scares me at all. Bring them all back.

Fuentes is going to cost just as much as Wood if not more. So if the Cards aren't going to get Wood because of money, then they won't get Fuentes as well.

thats why they finished third in the NL central

I hate to see Wood leave as well, but I think its time to let him go if he wants a long term contract. With his history the Cubs can't sign him to a multiple year deal. Hopefully we'll get Demp back and he wasn't a 1 yr wonder as a starter. Put Marmol in the closing spot and give Jeff S a little bit of time as setup. I like the rotation even without Wood and then mid year try to pick someone up at the most needed spot whether it be starter, middle relief, setup, or closer. Pitching such a hard spot to predict. I really think its best to go after guys mid year after you see what they've done for a couple of months.
