He'll have hit shot at building a legacy, but it will always fall behind that of the New York Bretts quarterback.

A fifteen or twenty year career, a couple of Super Bowl wins, and he could be right up there. After all, Green Bay once had some guy named Bart Starr, that hardly anyone seems to remember.
Now Peterson, he's quickly erasing the ghosts of Vikijng running backs all the way back to Chuck Foreman.

First, Peterson has been battling injuries all year
Second, opposing teams are playing 8 in the box as the Vikes don't have a respectable passing game.
Third, Safeties are playing deeper to catch up to him
Fourth, he is NOT Shaun Alexander. Shaun Alexander was NEVER a break away RB and he didn't hit like Peterson either. Alexander took what the defense gave and also profited from having a good OL. Also, when he scored mad amounts of TDs, most of them were goal-line runs, NOT large breakaways. Alexander was more of a weaving RB. He was a nice back, but he wouldn't have been great on a team with no passing or with no OL.
Last, I think people have inflated expectations of him.
This year Peterson is leading the league in rushing with 1015 yards. He's also averaging almost 5 yards/carry. What more do you want the guy to do? He's on one of the worst offenses and the opposing teams gameplan is to shut him down...

AP is an absolute freak.
He is a BEAST of a runner in every way. He's one of the most exciting players in the NFL and will be for a long time. Man is he fun to watch.

You can see how much more distance AD ran with the lateral cut to the sideline followed by the cut upfield to get around Woodson. Wooden took a straight angle which allowed him to make contact down field.
Robert Smith was an example of a back who relied primarily on speed to make an impact. Peterson has other special talents that make him an elite back - vision, acceleration, and ability to make cuts at full speed. NFL Video Galleries | | |

To me, AP looks like he'll be one of the greats to play the game.
And not only a passing game would help, but filling out the rest of the offensive line, with Pro Bowl caliber players. The bigger the holes, the less battering he takes, the longer his career.
You're protecting your investment.

NFL Video Galleries Sorry, I was referring to an earlier run, from say, the opposing twenty, when Woodson lassoed Peterson and wrangled him down just as he was about to break past. About a fifteen or twenty yard gainer that I thought might go all the way--but I can see where Woodson had the advantage in angle there, as well. Robert Smith was an example of a back who relied primarily on speed to make an impact. Peterson has other special talents that make him an elite back - vision, acceleration, and ability to make cuts at full speed. Very true.

I'm betting this guy is going to have a short carrier.

Or do you mean to say teams that play in that specific dome can't win championships? Which still doesn't hold true because of the Twins.
