If his players hadn't puked that game away like they did against the Patriots 2 years back, your whole argument would be gone. Then we have different understanding of what professional sports are about. Pro sports are about winning championships. Period. With the talent Marty has had in his career, he should have won multiple. He hasn't. That is why I, and many other San Diego fans I know, are happy as clams that he is gone. If you disagree, fine but to summarily call me wrong is ignorant.

I rest my case

Here's my final summary before I leave this discussion:
Marty supporters think it's great to have a winning season and make the playoffs. If you lose in the playoffs no big deal, regardless of how much talent you have.
I, and many Chargers fans I know, disagree. If you can't win in the playoffs then you are not a great NFL coach (especially with the talent Marty has had at his disposal). As such, Marty was rightfully run out of San Diego. He may be a fine man and good friend but that isn't part of this discussion. I hear he is enjoying his retirement and spending time with his grandchildren, good for him.
That appears to be the fundamental difference between us on this subject. But differences are what make life interesting........

You talk about how Marty couldn't win the Super Bowl but yet you are supporting a 4-6 season. Norv didn't win one either. The Chargers had a much better chance of winning it with Marty than Norv and if you can't see that, than there is no use arguing.

Norv won a playoff game with a backup QB, Marty didn't win a playoff game period. Seems pretty simple to me.
Why isn't that talent performing this year? I don't know but it is outside of the Marty discussion.
Goodbye.

Goodbye. Right, it's a NORV discussion - as in - he's not a good HC - period. Unless, if losing football games is good. | |

I never said I supported Norv and mentioned that he is likely gone when they don't make the playoffs this year.
That does not mean Marty is/was a great coach. As far as comparisons, we don't have to hypothesize about how far they would have gone. They coached the same roster in consecutive years and Norv took them further (with serious key-player injuries). Twist and turn it all you want, but it happened.

I thought you were leaving?
Oh, btw...Marty > Norv. That be a fact based on Win/Loss record.
