Thanksgiving Day NFL Games

So Mike and Mike today were whining about having to watch the Lions every Thanksgiving and wish the league would change it up. I personally would rather have the Cowboys and Lions continue to play on Thanksgiving because I don't care about either of them. It's great to eat, cheer for whoever is playing the Cowboys, and then fall asleep during the Lions game when they're down 21-3 in the 1st quarter. Thoughts?

It was kind of funny. I like how they said Detroit was luccky, at least they don't have to watch it because of the black-out...

Re: Thanksgiving Day NFL Games

I heard a few weeks back an interview with Jimmy Johnson about the Thanksgiving day games. He was saying that only a few teams want to have the thanksgiving game because it's hard to find workers to work during Thanksgiving. I thought that was a load of crap. He's still a Cowboy homer.

I hate that the Cowboys get to play every thanksgiving and we get to hear how they are "Americas" team. I don't really care about the Lions. One of the ideas on the show was to have the winner of the game gets to host the thanksgiving game the next year. I thought that was a great idea.

I think it should be a rotation as well...

My other idea is that you let the two losers of the conference championship game host the games on Thanksgiving (or the 2 super bowl participants).

We need a whole other thread on my thoughts on the NFL Network only on dish though :)

I guess I just like not having teams I care about play on Thanksgiving since I'm not always able to watch the entire games.

It looks like Atlanta-Phoenix is a Thanksgiving Day game, according to the commercials last night. I was surprised.

Fine with me if the Cowboys and Lions are the ones stuck with playing on a holiday. With family, those games are usually in the background anyway.

Even as a Lions fan, I have no basis for an argument to keep the Thanksgiving game. I guess you could argue it is the only tradition for a long-suffering team and fanbase. Well, that and the tradition of losing.

I like the idea of having the winner host the next year's TG game or some other kind of rotation.

I don't like either teams, but I am a sucker for tradition. Leave it as it is.

I think its a good opportunity for the NFL to showcase some elite games because basically everyone is watching on Thanksgiving. They should do the flex scheduling thing like NBC does. Give us a meaningful, top notch game(s).

I like having the cowboys and lions and having it the same every year mostly for tradition. I can't imagine having a game where the Raiders were playing the Chiefs or Texans or Seahawks this year. There are a lot of NFL teams I could care less about and would rather watch Cowboys/Lions than some other crappy matchups we might have.

Why don't the Cowboys and Lions just play each other every Thanksgiving? That way both teams' crapulence is isolated to a single game and their "fans" are pacified.

Then the NFL can put on a game involving 2 relevant teams.

I guess there's more people who can watch the games uninterrupted than I thought. Like others have suggested, the games are usually kind of in the background at our Thanksgiving and I can't watch them as I would like to if one of "my" teams were playing so I'm glad to have a couple of crappy games to pacify me.

Re: Thanksgiving Day NFL Games

I don't really care either way but I currently live in MI and have a lot of friends whose Thanksgiving traditions revolve around the game (no matter how bad the Lions are). Let them keep this tradition, they deserve it for being Lions fans.

The Lions are like the stock market - they are in a L shaped depression.
