Cubs pick up Gathright... Pie out?

The cubs signed joey gathright today

not a great pickup, but definitely brings some speed to the table. i have to think hes replacing dayrle ward's spot on the bench. More importantly does this mean that felix pie (pretty similar player to joey) is either on his way out in a trade, or have the cubs finally given up on him?

I think they should go get Corey Patterson. He has great potential. (I still have bad dreams of him swinging at fastballs over his head.)

He's a guy the Royals couldn't find a place for on their 40 man, if that tells you how good he is.

Tremendous speed and athletic ability, but he hasn't really translated that to baseball talent.

Damn, they're paying him just over the league minimum. I wonder if this means the end of the Felix Pee-a experiment. He's out of options, so he either has to be on the 25 man roster when the season starts, or he can't stay with the Cubs.

I think pie might end up getting traded somewhere... idk, but he as been a FAILURE. ive seen that youtube video before, athletic freak!

Gathright is going to be their 5th OF. Pie will start in CF next year when a RHP is on the mound.

As opposed to Kosuke, who the Cubs are paying 12 million a year? If Pie is going to remain with the team, Gathright would have to start the season in Des Moines. If Gathright wins a roster spot this spring, the Cubs will have to trade Pie.

I think Pie will be out. He needs to get his head straight and grow up from everything I have heard. Most likely, he will go somewhere else and end up being a hall of famer. That is the way it works for us Cubs fans, which by the way is fairly similar to being a Cyclone fan.

Fukudome will split CF with Reed Johnson. The Cubs are still looking for their right fielder.

If Pie ends up being what Korey Patterson has turned into in Baltimore, I would be fine with that. The Cubs used kid gloves with Pie because they didn't want to make the same mistakes with him that they made with Korey.

Until they sign a RF though Pie is the starting CF.

No, he isn't. Reed Johnson is, and Pie is the backup. Whenever they do sign a right fielder, center will be a platoon of Johnson and Fukudome. If he (Pie) doesn't make the team this spring, he'll get traded because the Cubs can't send him down again. Even if he does make the team, he won't be starting even if Kosuke sucks. You're not going to sit 12 million dollars on the bench for Felix Pie.
